Re: Bras and Society
As to the standards of art vs. what women are allowed to wear. I agree this is certainly a conflict. In *MY* ideal world management would be able to set the expectations of what is “proper” and have these applied evenly to everybody. I understand that many women feel that business is largely male do...

Re: let's talk about sex
Imogen, I suspect this gets down to the crux of the larger issue. I have a differing point of view, does this mean I’m not “playing nice” when I share it? No more than you. Do you have to avoid a topic because of what others do/say? No, that is a choice. Feeling pressure and being forced to do somet...

Re: let's talk about sex
I agree, and have agreed with a number of things you’ve said, eg. This is a manipulative and unacceptable situation. What I don’t agree with is whether or not this is “rape” or have any choice/accountability in the outcome. Furthermore I *DO* agree that choosing the option of least bad doesn’t elimi...

Re: let's talk about sex
Imogen, again I will agree with you fully, guilt and trauma come with that territory. Doing the right thing, perceived right thing, or option of least bad doesn’t make everything peachy. But that doesn’t make this situation “rape”, this is life, God didn’t promise me an easy existence, in fact I’m p...

Re: let's talk about sex
Imogen, Vorpal and I agree with you. Where we disagree is whether or not we’d let you kill our family… I for one would say no, in fact I have... but that's a longer story. That is the choice we are talking about.

Re: #73267 - Trans sibling
I wonder if the day will come when insurance companies will be forced to pay for operations attaching long bushy tails to those that just know that they are squirrels. OMG, best laugh I’ve had in a while. Though, on a serious note I would hope that we can all respect what each individual feels in h...

Re: let's talk about sex
Imogen, you’re right I was talking about breaking up but I believe the parallels fit. Furthermore, I think we see these things from drastically different points of view. Is this situation manipulative? Absolutely. Are there a litany of horrible words that can be used to describe such behaviors? Yes....

Re: Bras and Society
I’ll say that is a fairly accurate representation with a few caveats; Do I *enjoy* conflict? No, am I afraid of it? No. Am I caustic and sarcastic to make a point? Probably more than I ought to be. You might ask WHY do I have such a strong stance on my position, how do I feel justified in it? I have...

Re: Bras and Society
Portia, it seems to me you do for women what you accuse Vorpal of doing for men. It seems he would ask women to dress modestly as to not (tempt? Inspire impure thoughts? Bring about physical reactions?... something like this right?) and you see this as manipulative and pushing the blame on women (to...

Re: let's talk about sex
Inability to say no, not unwilling, HUGE difference, which is why I put the "I couldn't say no" in quotes, perhaps this was ill defined. Point being “Yes” or “No” clearly defines the line between consent and rape, the lack there of (depending on state) allows for contextual interpretation....

Re: let's talk about sex
Point being, if you feel it is "rape" (are unwilling) and aren't even willing to say "no", you have a problem. * Much like a mugger asking you for your wallet or cell phone with no threat of force, then it’s called “begging” and while it is frowned upon it isn’t illegal (most pla...

Re: let's talk about sex
Ok, that word got lost in the pages of assumptions flung at me so I missed it *apologies*, and that is in fact a game changer. One of my longest standing personal rules about sex is “no alcohol the first time” because it does indeed encourage bad decisions.

Re: let's talk about sex
The Black Ram, I think an important point is that we were both well past the point of intoxication, and therefore legally unable to consent, if I understand the law correctly. (I don't make a habit of this: it was not a high point in my life.) (Also, maybe use the quote function? It's difficult to ...

Portia: I never said nor said that I said I was willing to have sex with the guy. (I wasn't, and I didn't say so.): I never said I didn't want to sleep with him, either. (He was really hot!) The point of the story is that he didn't assume I was, and I'd personally rather a guy assume "no" ...

Re: let's talk about sex
No, he told you "I know you're not that kind of girl."... I just believe in the right to make a choice and be held accountable for that choice, apparently this is where we differ. "Benevolent sexism", is still sexism.
