Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

One of my high school buddies has become super duper alt-right and apparently I am the devil because I'm trying to stay centrist or centrist-leaning-left? He just called me a communist and I can't even process that... (Not that I think being a communist is the devil or anything, but for this guy tha...

Re: Apostasy vs Blackmail

I just...my brain doesn't want to believe this could be anything BUT trolling.

I liked Anathema's measured "let me level with you response" and April's calling-it-like-it-is. If this is not trolling, I agree with her; this OP has serious issues in the way of sociopathy or sadism.

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

Moana songs have been in my head for DAYS. (Except "Shiny," which I guess lots of people love? Maybe if you're a Bowie fan, or Flight of the Conchords fan. I'm unfamiliar with both, so there you go.) The Dakota Access Pipeline is going to be rerouted! :D :D :D :D :D (Assuming they get a j...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

Amity, my school is one of the ones mentioned in this article . It's not actually a higher-education institution; it's a secondary school. I will send you a PM with more info if you are still interested. (Many of our wonderful students participated in a walkout today; while I believe in supporting t...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

There have already been incidents at the school I teach at, which is very diverse and has always appeared to be inclusive. I've never heard racially-charged insults like these ones before, not from our students. Unfortunately, the last 48 hours haven't brought out the best in most people. (Except Ob...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

Relieved that my grandma is on the Never Trump side. It may seem minor, but it makes me happy. I don't know you or your grandma, but this makes me happy, too! Interesting that about 1/3 of Utah Mormons still support Trump (ugh yuck yuck), but that's much better than many other Christian and Evangel...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

Holy cow holy cow. One of my friends posted a joke on Facebook with some drawings/words added onto a church pamphlet. ("Does God have a flan for me?") Said friend is religious, so it was all in good fun and not meant to be disrespectful. Somehow a very very angry acquaintance of his read t...

Re: Rant of the Day

I completely agree with the basic premise of this article: http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-orlando-shooting-media-20160618-snap-story.html The type of media coverage that is given to a mass shooting only increases the likelihood of copycat crimes. If we spend all of our time focusing on the kill...

BQ 86831 - Countess von Hohenlohe

Ooh, ooh! I was at this lecture and the story's amazing. I won't get all the details right (just working from memory here), but here's the gist of it. It's (mostly?) true, even if it sounds like a soap opera or something: Countess Adelheid von Hohenlohe lived with her family in Germany*. Her father ...

Most/least polite dating turn-down

Story, then question! So, there's a young lady I home-taught a few years ago in my old ward. I kind of got vibes that she was interested in me, but the feeling wasn't mutual so I made sure to keep things "professional." Fast-forward to when I've moved to another town, about a half-hour's d...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

I just played "Small Worlds" at a game night, and it took the few things I LIKE about Risk and took away everything I don't like about Risk (which is a lot). It was one of the most fun board games I've ever played. And the randomization ensures that no 2 games are exactly alike! ...now, if...

Instagram, Insta-groan

Ohoho, I am so punny and clever. #sarcasm Anyway (I hate hashtags, by the way), I'm the advisor for a high school club and we want to create an Instagram account. Apparently we can't just do that on my computer; it's got to be on a mobile device. Are Instagram accounts accessible from a variety of d...

IF YOU'RE IN UTAH AND BUY AT LEAST 8 DOLLARS OF GAS AT CHEVRON THIS MONTH, THEY'LL DONATE A DOLLAR TO TEACHER PROJECTS ON DONORSCHOOSE.ORG. I am slightly excited about this in case you couldn't tell.

Re: Dads and piles of Nat Geos

My dad used to have a gigantic pile of old Boy's Life (scouting) magazines. I got to read a serialized version of the "Tripods" trilogy from it, though! Plus plenty of "Dink and Duff" comics. :)

Kevin - 82276 (and others)

Okay, this Kevin business is getting kind of annoying. I guess this is how some people felt about the 100 Hour Borg (which I thought was funny), back when it happened. I hope Kevin questions don't start becoming too ubiquitous on the Board. Anybody know what's up with Kevin?

I'm just confused that someone would take the time to send you a private e-mail, Concorde, in order to express their dissatisfaction. As if you thought everyone was going to agree with you, anyway. It was also clear to me that you were just "thinking out loud" and not saying everything the...

On amazing animation

I saw Song of the Sea with my sister last week and it was so wonderful. It's probably the most beautiful animated film I have ever seen. Definitely needs to be watched in a theater (and it's still showing at Broadway Cinemas in SLC this week, I think!) Speaking of evocative animation, has anyone her...
