Re: Question #58064 (AND #58114!)

Ditto to the above responses. I know what it's like to struggle with the idea of the patriarchal order, and I very much appreciate the responses from each writer. You all do more than enough to try to help people, and I thank you for that.

Re: You can tell a lot about someone by ...

I think you can tell a lot about someone by their blog, Facebook page, or any other kind of online profile they keep (if they even have one, which also says a lot). Do they focus on their kids? Their dating life? Their school work? The latest party? The books they're reading? It can be pretty eye-op...

Re: Favorite Dreams

I rarely remember my dreams, unfortunately. I do remember one when I was pregnant with my son, in which I felt like all my teeth were super loose and eventually started falling out. Kinda gruesome, huh? After I told my mom, she said she had the same dream when she was pregnant. Ew. I recently had a ...

Re: How I met the 100 Hour Board

I remember being a little freshman on BYU campus back in 2000, wandering near the Ride Board in the Wilk, and there were these strange papers posted on a bulletin board with responses from people with weird names. Something about asking whatever question you wanted and you'd get an answer from rando...

Re: Introduce Yourselves!

Last, but not least, Carrapicho, I think I know you. I'm not sure, but you sound like the description of an acquaintance I met a couple years back. Really? :o It's quite possible! I do know a few math people around BYU, but I think most of them have been graduated for awhile. I don't mind at all if...

Re: Serving Alcohol While a BYU Student

Am I supposed to quit working at movie theaters that show rated R movies, stores that sell wine, or companies that work on sunday (even if I don't)? Shoot, I'm screwed. I used to work custodial at BYU, and my shift was 10:30pm-2am Sunday through Thursday nights. BYU made me break a commandment! But...

Re: Breastfeeding During Class

I just noticed something about the original question. She says, "If it were alright with the teachers and my classmates would it be okay? I would of course, use a nursing cover. How do you even go about asking people about things like that?" Sounds to me like she's planning to clear it wit...

Re: Question about Romance - posted preemptively

I've refrained from answering this question because I'm still trying to sort my thoughts. Growing up, romance to me was always about what you see in the movies--guy buys girl flowers, they eat a dinner by candlelight, surprise trips to the Caribbean or Europe, luxury hotels, all that stuff. I feel l...

Re: Breastfeeding During Class

they are asking nursing women to take every reasonable step to avoid putting others in potentially uncomfortable positions. I feel like this kinda overstates your position as well. Asking nursing women should "avoid putting others in potentially uncomfortable positions" can lead to a big ...

Re: Serving Alcohol While a BYU Student

This whole topic kinda reminds me of the outcry that came when Kirby Heyborne appeared in that beer commercial. Wiki says that he had a show at BYU that got canceled because of it. What do you think? Is there a difference? I think it's a completely gray area. I mean, I've known perfectly active LDS ...

Man. I used to think I typed fast, but I don't know if I can make the top ten there. But I'm up for a race whenever! I'm at work, on a computer, all day every day, and this being summer, there's not a ton to do. So hit me up! My username on there is the same as on here :)

Re: Breastfeeding During Class

Thanks, Dragon Lady, for reinforcing what I think are all valid points. I guess I'd also forgotten how sometimes babies, especially newborns/babies younger than 3-4 months (which the baby in question will be throughout the semester, since she's due in September), need to eat more often and RIGHT NOW...

Re: Trying to invite someone to Institute

I'm with the group that hasn't really had a lot of friendship success from home and visiting teaching. Maybe when I was younger, when I'd see our home teacher at church and he'd shake my hand and leave a piece of candy in my hand when he pulled away, or we'd have pool parties together or something l...

Re: Breastfeeding During Class

A somewhat brash thought just occurred to me. Why is breastfeeding okay but it's inappropriate for a woman to talk in mixed company about her period, or men to talk about their bowel movements? They're all just as natural as breastfeeding are they not? I think maybe it's the talking about it part. ...

Re: Breastfeeding During Class

I was sort of glad that CPM piped up with his answer. As many have already said, I don't find it awkward because breasts are sexualized--I would find it awkward because of the noise that comes along with feeding babies. It was already mentioned earlier, but some babies gulp, breathe loudly during f...

Thanks, bob. You can call me whatever you want, honestly. I don't really care much about anonymity on here, so I'll just come out and say it: Carrapicho is Portuguese for burr (you know, like the little stickie thingies that get stuck to your socks when you walk through weeds), and Burr was my maide...

Re: Breastfeeding During Class

A thought just occurred to me--didn't the OP say the classes are three hours long? I know it depends on the time of day those classes are, but most babies only need to eat every 3-3.5 hours. If I were her, I would try to feed the baby right before class or right after, and then only leave when neces...

Re: Breastfeeding During Class

I know this is going to sound ignorant and mean, but I'm sorry I just am not comfortable around women breastfeeding. It isn't sexual to me, but it is something I have literally never been around. I had no way to mention this in an answer and actually contribute, I just want to know... am I really t...
