Re: Skipping Classes

One time (last week) I left a class early because I lost my phone and was panicking. That was the first time this semester I've skipped. Actually, the first time since I've been in this program (I'm in my second and final year). So I guess that normally, I don't skip classes. I just bring my compute...

Re: 61906?

I hear what you all are saying, and at the same time I still wonder. Yes, I probably was/am super judgy and I have been working on that, this experience has helped a lot with that. And another issue is that once I told my roommate that I stopped going to church (cuz she didn't notice even though it ...

Re: Mormon Theology

And whatever an elder in the Church says when moved upon by the Holy Ghost is scripture, is the will of the Lord, is the mind of the Lord, is the word of the Lord, is the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation. I believe that what it means to sustain our General Authorities is to re...

Re: 61906?

Gah, I'm already nervous typing this and I don't even know most of you in real life... This topic is a minor part as to why I am hesitant to go back to church. Yes everyone, I am not going to church and haven't since May. And according to the LDS religion I have made 'mistakes' that honestly, I don'...

Re: How do we make sure everyone is heard?

Vorpal, while I disagree with your interpretation of dialogue and debate, I respect your thoughts and seeing as I already brought up my thoughts on it, I will leave it at that. I hope we can agree to disagree. Marduk, I knew I was interpreting it wrong! Thanks for elaborating, I appreciate it! :) Al...

Re: How do we make sure everyone is heard?

Marduk, I'm confused. Earlier you said, I don't think the pope's comments come from God, but I'm always interested in what he has to say, as many DO believe he speaks for God, and that shapes the way that they act and see the world. But then when US said (essentially) that she doesn't believe in wha...

Re: 61906?

This happened to someone in my immediate family. They told their significant other about a past mistake they made and the s.o. couldn't handle it and left my family member. It was sad and I obviously have biased thoughts towards that now but to answer your question, yes it does happen. And from what...

Re: How do we make sure everyone is heard?

I would also caution against saying that such statements mean nothing. Even if one does not believe they are authoritative, they still hold sway with a lot of people and both define and shape a portion of human perspective. Umm... Re: #61430- Singleton responses

It seems to me that it has turned into a debate rather than a dialogue. This website is how I define both debate and dialogue. http://www.nald.ca/library/learning/study/scdvd.htm I'm not saying I didn't contribute to that environment, I am well aware I did. However, I became aware of it and so I dec...

How do we make sure everyone is heard?

I agree with Unit, I'm staying out of it from now on. Because whatever I say will get attacked and an attempt will be made to prove that I'm wrong/mislead. However, honestly that only strengthens my beliefs. So I'm no longer going to try to change anyone else's thoughts on this subject as it has pro...

Re: #61430- Singleton responses

I could give countless examples but I will just give you one. When I go out to have fun with my friends, I have to be cautious about my drinks so that no one will spike it or put anything in it. I've never known a man to worry about that.

Re: #61430- Singleton responses

I just read Vorpal's latest comment to two ladies in my class (who also lived through the 50's) and they said that 'Father Knows Best' was imbedded with values of negative attitudes towards women. Granted, they couldn't speak to this one specific episode but they did talk about the show in general. ...

Re: #61430- Singleton responses

It is a shame to see someone self-identify with Feminism because they have been presented with lies about an earlier period of time. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you Vorpal so if I am please feel free to correct me. But are you saying that people who are feminist now are feminist due to lies being fe...

Wow. This seems to have gotten quite heated! The only thing I've got to add is a quote we used in one of my classes this week.

Katya, I completely agree with you!! My best friend left the church in part because he was completely shunned for getting kicked off his mission. It was sad. My thoughts on this are that if they're happy, I will wish them congratulations. If they asked for my opinion, I would tell them that I would ...

Re: Help!

Yeah, I understand. I wouldn't exist either so I'm glad that my parents are making it work. And my dad's family has always been like that. I know that doesn't make it right but it's how they are. So my mom's limited experience with them has been with knowing they think that she 'stole' him away from...

Re: Help!

melbabi, what kinds of difficulties do you mean? (If you're okay talking about them here.) I think your stance makes sense, but I don't have a clear idea of what kinds of difficulties, exactly, being from different cultures can lead to. I don't mind at all. And just to make sure I was accurately po...
