Re: winter storm gandalf

BAN HER. Arizona (as I may or may not have mentioned twice already on this forum. I can't remember.) is set to have the coldest streak in 25 years -- 4 consecutive days with a low below freezing. Brrr..... We're in Vegas visiting family while my husband is at CES. Instead of the usual warm respite,...

Re: VL

My husband and I were both so embarrassed about being VL when we started dating that we didn't admit it until weeks after our first kiss. He always cited a story where his first kiss was in first grade and let people assume he had kissed other girls since then, but in reality he went on first and se...

Re: back at BYU! (class, money, and choice in education)

It's true that being poor is weirdly idealized in Mormon culture. The history of the homesteader you were reading about sounds fascinating. Can you guys explain that more? Like examples? I'm just curious because I've always had the opposite impression -- that being wealthy is idealized; the more mo...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

My husband and his friends always go snow camping in January for fun. But last night they were cold while fully bundled, right next to the fire . . . so they decided to come home instead of spending the night. Which I'm grateful for, because the truck told them it was 25 below when they were driving...

Re: Answers I liked

I think there is a reason MSJ was terse about it - the only answer we can give is that it isn't an official Church policy and from there, everything is up to individual people. Not much more to say. On a related note, I don't know if I have linked to it before, but I SERIOUSLY love this blog: http:/...

Re: Doorbell ditching

So, is leaving treats included in the survey? Or is that just asking if you rang the bell and ran with nothing left behind? I'm not sure that my answer would change, since I can't run fast enough to get away anyway, but I'm just curious. I have no problem with the idea of leaving treats anonymously.

Re: marriage

Since no one who is actually married has chimed in yet, I just want to say that the reason is probably because we don't remember. Or at least I don't. Goodness, I think I've tried to block most of the memories of dating shenanigans, and if I hadn't it was ten years ago. Knowing me, I probably tried ...

Scheduling

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/70257/ Am I the only one that loved one hour breaks? LOVED. That was when I got most of my homework done. If I had a longer break, I would end up wasting my time, but when I had one hour, it was time to crank out the assignments. Back to back didn't give me time to...

This article says that they are doing this to "to advocate for equality within our faith." http://www.ksl.com/?sid=23355976&nid=1016&title=group-pushes-for-lds-women-to-wear-pants-to-church&s_cid=queue-7 So which is it? Is this to bring attention to struggling sisters, or prove...

Re: "Wear Pants to Church Day"

The funny thing is, it isn't even in the handbook anymore (if it ever was). A new member started coming to my mom's ward (she's in the RS Presidency), and was wearing pants every week. My mom started worrying about if she should say anything or let it go, but when she looked it up in the handbook, n...

Yeah, I was with Rating Pending, especially with his first sentence. Why would we want to list those? I'd rather not give ridiculous excuses the time of day. I understand that you knew they were excuses, so the bulk of his question might not have been directed at you. But I can't say I've ever met a...

Re: An idea that will revolutionize your marriage

Huh. None of that bothers me. My husband stays up late every night, I wake up early with the kids, and we steal covers and pillows on accident all the time. In fact, we were just laughing about that today. I love snuggling with him in bed, and we have no problem poking each other if someone is snori...

Re: Movie Theater Money Saving

LOL I'm impressed that your daughter sits through the entire movie enough to get that much out of it. We live close to the $3.50 theater in PG (and know the owners very well), so that's our way to go (if we go out). $3 popcorn all the way!

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

Random story of the night: I went to FHE, and was waiting there by myself, when this girl with whom I'm friends with walks up with this guy. And I look at this guy, and he looks at me, and we're both like "We know each other's names." And we both felt like we had been friends in the past,...

My husband came in when I clicked on your link, and knew exactly what that was. He says that the upgrades between the two are big enough that you should get the B. (I think he was happy to have a reason to look through all the specs. Interesting toy!) His main reason behind saying that was the extra...

Re: Special Ordering Temple Garments

So, I actually used to work at Beehive Clothing making garments (sweat-shop style). I was a worker bee that wasn't involved in the special order section, but on my first day they toured us around the whole plant and talked to us about the special order area. And their entire goal was to help out peo...

Re: VCRs- still have one?

How else would we watch our living scriptures video collection? Exactly. Those things are so expensive, I was quite happy to inherit a stash of Disney videos and snag Living Scriptures cheap at a garage sale. We'll see how long the VHS tapes last. And amazingly enough, my parents no longer have a V...

Re: VCRs- still have one?

We use one all the time at the cabin. So the fun part is that my four year old knows how to work Netflix like the back of her hand and can also work a VHS player, but has no concept of regular TV. Commercials and shows not starting whenever she wants them to baffle her.

Re: choir vs band vs orchestra smackdown

There was something in the air at my high school, because the band was actually pretty cool. I was an orchestra kid, and I wanted so much to hang out with the band kids that I joined colorguard. (high five, 42!) < five > ! Yup. I did four years in high school and three in college and loved every mi...
