Farewell to Utah and/or Farewell to Yayfulness

Hey all, Seeing as I'm about to leave Utah on a rather permanent basis, I've decided to host one last Board gathering this Saturday. If you're interested in coming, please post the times that you're available and I'll go with whatever works for as many people as possible. If most of you can't make i...

Re: Nude Trump Statues

Yeah, I was amused at first, but the more I think about it the more it makes me uncomfortable. It's part of a larger trend I've seen in which people basically say "it's okay for us to do all these otherwise-not-okay things to Trump because he is Bad." And I don't dispute his badness. But t...

Re: aggravating coworkers

This is the same guy who's been taken to HR at least half a dozen times for making inappropriate comments towards young female coworkers (he's in his mid-50s). I never liked him before that conversation, but I don't think he ever really caught on.

aggravating coworkers

Link. I got called an apostate at work the other day. It... hurt, surprisingly. I mean, you could make a pretty good case that it's accurate, but given the intent behind it it was still a pretty unpleasant thing to hear. My offense, incidentally, was arguing that if the Book of Mormon can be used a...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

Pulling this from another place because what I have to say isn't relevant to that topic but it seems worth saying. When I first stopped going to church it was something like that. It didn't have anything to do with church history or a specific lack of belief. It was just too hard. Trying to explain ...

Re: Answers I liked

When I was scanning through the question and Zed's placeholder, I completely failed to catch that the dictionary definition she was referring to was for "fetish" and not "spatula."

That was confusing.

Re: Rant of the Day

Zed, here's the story of a guy who participated in the beard ban protest a couple of years ago. Fair warning, it's posted in /r/exmormon and there's swearing, but at the time he was mostly just a liberal progressive mormon, not an exmo. An acquaintance from his mission turned him in solely on the b...

Re: Temple Altar Cloths

There's been discussion of this in the past, Marduk. I think it would be a very good thing. From what I recall (and these are recollections from over a year ago, so I may be wrong), the issue is that a comprehensive method of doing what you're suggesting would be difficult to implement, and an ad-ho...

My guess in this case is that he wrote his answer first and Zed added hers later.

Re: Rant of the Day

And now snipers in Dallas have shot at least ten police officers. Three of them are dead. Innocent black men are dead. Innocent police officers are dead. I am honestly afraid we are on the verge of civil war. No sane person should hope for that. I have never been more afraid for the future of this c...

Well, if the police had to stop you, that's proof you were up to no good, right? I honestly believe that (when black skin is involved, anyway) that's literally all the justification plenty of people need.

I do not understand how it is somehow a controversial opinion to be opposed to what by all appearances was a summary execution by police.

I thought they were The Most Amazing Band Ever when I was a teenager. Now I think they're more like Pretty Good And Definitely Worth $30 Especially Since They're Getting Really Old And Might Die At Any Moment.

Dennis DeYoung used to be the lead singer for Styx, if that adds some context.

Alas, I'll be busy working and then knocking Boston/Dennis DeYoung off of my concert bucket list. Wish I could come!

Re: Rant of the Day

I am so glad nobody in my social circles has made any asinine comments about the Orlando shootings, because I am ready to rip heads off. I had so many emotions yesterday - sadness, frustration, horror, the whole gamut. Today, I have only one emotion: barely concealed rage.

Well, you're officially doing better than me. (It does make it easier when you and your spouse make the same decision for the same reasons.) Good job, and best of luck in the long term!

Yeah, I can't really tell whether the question or the answer are serious... I'm hoping the answer is no, because that's kind of creepy and presumptuous if the answer is yes.

It's hard to describe my experience except by saying that I basically woke up one day and realized God probably does not exist and that all of my previous arguments for God's existence no longer made any sense. I fought with that feeling for about a year, and it was just about the most miserable yea...
