Re: Should you go to med school?

This thread just made my day. Even though I have no plans (or even thoughts) of doing medical school. I've been slowly realizing that I really have known for a while what path is right for me, and I don't need to sacrifice that for what everyone else tells me is easier or harder or better or worse. ...

I'm pretty sure it's not a ruse, but seeing how I wasn't even around before the "change", maybe someone more authoritative should chime in.

Re: Insane Politics

I think the biggest problem is the "you're either with us or against us" mentality that everyone has. Once elected, some politicians swear to vote on party lines and never deviate from certain positions. As we saw recently, that can lead to ridiculous deadlock and nothing getting done. I u...

Re: Stuff we're reading / watching / listening to

Seriously, my French has actually improved a ton since I started reading Harry Potter. I'd say I'm already quite a bit better now than when I was in high school French class 4+ years ago. If I can get my hands on them I'm going to try to read them all.

Re: Stuff we're reading / watching / listening to

I've been reading Harry Potter in French. It's been half a decade since I read them all, and I figured I needed to do something to refresh those neurons. Plus, as they're basically kids books, especially the first few, they're not impossible for me to read. Currently just starting "Chamber of S...

Insane Politics

It almost makes me want to cry that our politicians are so dumb. Most Americans supported the Obama/Boehner deficit-reduction deal, but it got shot down by the Tea Party. I propose there be a "Sane Party" that agrees with compromise and disagrees with insanity. We also need to un-gerrymand...

Uhh...if you told him directly you have no interest in dating him, he must just be going on wishful thinking? If you told me that I would be out of your hair in about five minutes.

Maybe he just takes you being friendly/a friend to him to mean that the door's still open.

I think it's useful for me to not have to memorize everything in some contexts. If I had to memorize the entire Java programming language I'm pretty sure my head would explode. Having the Java documentation online is extremely useful. Because I don't have to spend time memorizing class and method na...

Re: #63923 - government grants

I agree, with one caveat: family finances probably shouldn't be allowed to fall into the category of "he cares a lot, but she doesn't really give a hoot, so he makes all the decisions." It's one thing for your husband to make the hard water decisions because you can't tell the difference;...

Re: Sex Education in the Church

For what it's worth, I was born in the 80s, almost exactly six years after my parents got married, and I was the second child. If my parents had felt pressured about having lots of kids I would have been #5 instead. It didn't make any sense for them to have lots of kids at the time; my dad didn't ev...

Re: What company would you love to work at?

To be completely honest, I would absolutely love to start/run my own software company. I know those are a dime a dozen right now but that's my current dream. I would do it right now except I have a fantastic job that's paying for all my school costs, and I don't want to quit that to do something I m...
