Re: 12 grade sci fi reading options poll

Only book on either list I've read is Hitchhiker's Guide. Which, incidentally I would recommend whole-heartedly. It's a fun book, but you can delve deeper into it as well. I actually read a really interesting article recently ( http://gizmodo.com/the-fermi-paradox-where-the-hell-are-the-other-earths...

Re: Old Class Schedules

I missed that journal so much! It has records of some of my favorite years in it. But I'd put it in an old scripture case, in a box, under my winter clothes. I basically emptied my closet looking for it to answer this question. It was the third or fourth time trying to find it since graduation. I li...

Re: Old Class Schedules

Like^ Actually, comparing schedule with Significant Other is probably the closest. A friend wanted as detailed description of a particular day in my life as was possible. He wanted to compare it to his because.... well, actually I'm not entirely sure why. It was fun anyways. And I found my lost jour...

Re: Old Class Schedules

And if there's a campus schedule from March of '09, that'd be great too.

Old Class Schedules

Is there a way to look up my old class schedules for BYU? Not just what term I took what class, but what time of day I took it?

Re: Word of the Day

Hmm... I feel like there ought to be a specific, awesome sounding word for this phenomenon. But I begin to suspect it doesn't exist, unfortunately. Thanks for finding a term that I can use, though, Whistler!

Re: #77659 - purpose of a chorister

I can't conduct music, but I would happily learn if I knew our organist would follow. She plays 90% of the hymns at the same tempo every freaking week. Occasionally we'll get a song that sounds right at that speed, and my friend and I will get so excited. Usually it reminds me of Fred and George sin...

Re: Word of the Day

I thought I dreamt a cool word. Azuza: the smooth water directly between the arms of a wake.

This is not so. Googling Azuza comes up with Azusa, CA. And I can't find the word that defines the water spot that I thought this word did. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: life satisfaction survey

I'm at "mixed feelings" because I'm at yet another junction of life where I am hanging between change and stagnation. This situation always brings out feelings of longing, restlessness, fear, and uncertainty. Equally balanced against that are feelings of excitement, love of the moment, fea...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

I'm pretty sure they started back with Paperback Exchange. Or something with a similar name. The idea was to share around books with strangers. There were "drop points" at bus stops, schools, coffee shops, and the like. You'd post that you dropped a book at a location, and it was first-com...

Re: What Makes the Board a Community?

That's so cool Violet! What was it like meeting them? Apparently a couple of the people on Sparkbomb live near me, and my friend is going to try to introduce me. Is it silly that I'm sort of nervous? I've created an online persona, and now it's going to mix with my real-life persona. Has anyone else...

Genuine Article wrote:... they just didn't bother coming home for his wedding...
I'd probably not write my parents for the entire rest of their mission if that happened to me. Call me spiteful, but I'd be freaking ticked.

Re: Common Core (NOT a debate!)

Violet, that's really awesome that they were able to find a way to give flexibility to students based on their individual propensities. Looking over my post, I feel like I didn't express my main point very well. I stated my dream, not my reason. :p I think measurability is important. However, my con...

Re: Answers I liked

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/77489/ I liked Ozymandius' economics-based analysis of dating. :) When I took a game theory class a few years ago, my classmates and I got a lot of mileage out of comparing dating to game theory: it's a non-zero-sum and hybrid cooperative game with imperfect inform...

Re: What Makes the Board a Community?

Whistler, I really think that idea of forming bonds outside the main forum is a good one. I know the people Sparkbomb that I feel closest to are those I also Skype with. Hmmm... maybe I should join their Steam group. Really the only thing stopping me is my laziness about getting a Steam account. :p ...

Re: What Makes the Board a Community?

Thanks Whistler! What are some specific ways you feel that you contribute here? I feel like I don't contribute much and yet I feel very included. I feel like the writers and former writers have all be instrumental in providing what is essentially the "product" of The Board: answers. I supp...

Re: Common Core (NOT a debate!)

I'd be really interested to hear what keeps us from having expected levels of competency to enter each level. Rather than brush stroking by age, we would sort by ability in each class. High school does this, but I don't see it as much in the younger grades. A sixth grader who's got a fifth grade mat...

I've heard a lot of the weird pronunciation merges. They're putting them in writing now? This ... this makes my soul ache.
