Re: Random Ramblings and the Deathly Hallows
I just wanted to take a good news minute to say that my research project at the local university hospital just got approved by the IRB and I just started working on data collection and I am so excited and I am going to work really hard and get a publication and presentation and add those to my CV! A...

Re: World Cup 2010: Haters, go elsewhere
Octupi are friends, not food! I'll be honest, for the final, I had only a mild preference for the Netherlands to win, and that's because I like Dirk Kuyt. Oh well. I also thought the defense and goal-keeping were too tight for it to be a really exciting game. I felt like both sides made some nice ch...

Re: Learned Optimism Test
As far as the test went, blaming other people for bad things and taking credit for good things makes you more optimistic. That sounds more like a jerk to me. It sounds jerkish, but thinking about things that way makes you super happy and resilient to disappointment and failure. When good things hap...

Re: Less-than-Excited BYU Freshman
With my four-year scholarship, they told me I had to keep a 3.6 cumulative to keep the scholarship. I got it in 2007, though, so it's likely that the cutoff changed from 2000. And you can add my name to the list of people who didn't want to come to BYU, were convinced they would hate it, and then en...

Re: Ideal Ward Calling?
I would like to be the ward nutritionist. Somebody's gotta keep all you bakers in line.
Also, I would preach the doctrine of whole foods! Being on a college student's budget does not mean you have to eat junk like macaroni from a box or fast food on a regular basis.

Re: Test your Harry Potter character knowledge
115! At the end, you can sort the answers by "most missed." The first character most guessed by other people that I missed was Lavender Brown. The character most missed by other people that I got was Bertha Jorkins. I got Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, and Slytherin in the very last mi...

Re: Random Ramblings and the Deathly Hallows
I took a redeye flight last night, and it left Portland right after dark, so during takeoff, I got to see an aerial view of fireworks across the whole city. So cool! I was just wondering what fireworks look like from above! Which is better, above or below? It was way cool to see them from above onc...

caffeine
All the Word of Wisdom talk on the other thread made me think of this. So, a lot of people believe that the reason why coffee and tea are verboten is because they have caffeine, and so they avoid coffee, tea, and other caffeinated beverages like Coke. That's not very unusual. One of my friends (who ...

Re: Spaghetti sauce
We always poured the cold sauce from the jar over the spaghetti and then microwaved each plate individually. That way you don't even get the sauce in the pasta pot and it is even easier to clean up after. But I guess the whole microwave thing is kind of ghetto, huh? I never really thought about it u...

Re: Grossest Fruit
Bananas are the most disappointing fruit. At first they are tasty and pleasant! But then halfway through, every banana spontaneously and inevitably turns disgusting, and I find myself left staring at the freaky little strings clinging to the sides of the banana, and with a mouthful of horrible banan...

Re: Random Ramblings and the Deathly Hallows
I get annoyed by a lot of the money and politics in it, but I genuinely enjoy the rare occasion that that all takes a back seat and the true spirit of competition is displayed. Yeah, that's why college and national sports are more fun than pro. I mean, it is way fun to see the level of athleticism ...

When I read the article about that game, I really thought it was a joke. I didn't believe it until I had seen it from three other sources. But yeah. Dang.

Re: Random Ramblings and the Deathly Hallows
I am so baffled by people who don't follow sports at all. I don't even consider myself a huge sports fan, but it still happens all the time that I mention something about a big game (like how well a certain player did, or whatever) to someone, and they have nooo idea what I'm talking about. Weird.

Re: Random Ramblings and the Deathly Hallows
Ahhhh that hurt so bad today. I was watching it with my brothers and we were going nuts. I guess that's the problem with getting so emotionally invested in sports. Sigh. Buuuut, I am VERY excited to watch the England-Germany game tomorrow. Thank goodness for afternoon church. I am busting out my Way...
