Re: Mother-in-law rant

Now I feel the need to explain it more fully. The last bit was a reference to what I see when I read comments on news articles. Half of them are attacking the comments that the other half of the people make and usually involve some kind of ridiculous name calling or judgment passing, based solely of...

Re: Mother-in-law rant

Oh, wow. Yes, clarifying. All I meant to say was that in my personal philosophy, judging someone based off of a single sentence on a message board is a very silly thing to do. That's all. Nope, not calling you judgmental or ignorant, Sky Bones. Far from it. :-)

Re: Mother-in-law rant

You know, one of my favorite bits from the book 'The Alchemist' was in the foreward, where the basic idea is that it's the small, chronic pains, annoyances, and problems in life that end up sapping more enjoyment and pleasure than the big things, because we tend to address the big things more direct...

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

*I* dreamed that a very good friend of mine who I've had a crush on for a few years on and off showed up and was chatting with me, and during the dream I kept telling myself, "He's not part of your life any more. Stop hanging on to something that won't happen, you're just holding yourself back....

Re: Blood Type

Emiliana, I love donating blood! I happen to work at ARUP and on slow days, I can go down to the blood donation center and donate on the clock. On reeeally slow days, I can go donate platelets, which is even better because I can save a life *and* watch a movie at minimal discomfort to myself. I wish...

A friend of mine recently posted on Facebook:
"I used to think it would be uncomfortable to have a lesbian find me attractive. But now I think that it would be much more uncomfortable to have a cannibal, malre or female, find me attractive"

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

I am very happy to be done pulling grass out of flower beds. I live in a rental house and no one did anything with the gardens last year. One of my roommates and I did some serious grass removal. Good luck, Whistler!

Re: Girls.

Also, most girls have an emotional range larger than that of a tablespoon. And their emotions are not in play in a vacuum. There are a gazillion things happening to everyone every day and we subconsciously let a lot of those things affect how we feel and how we act, and we usually reflect that to ot...

I agree with Katya. The best successes I've found have been when I play up my interests in what the guy does or is interested in, and while I don't necessarily play down what I do (being a research scientist in a genetics lab is a little more obscure than being an attorney but has gotten me response...

I will be the designated Favorite Aunt, a title I have acquired from allowing small boys to frost cakes with me, make pumpkin bread, dig in the dirt, run through sprinklers, endure twelve hour car rides full of vomit, diarrhea, and peeing in the car while stuck in a traffic jam on the freeway, sendi...

I really wanted to come, but since I was already driving down to Utah Valley on Saturday and Sunday, I didn't feel like spending the money to drive one more time. I'd love to come to a future event, though.

. . . cold, rainy, and hail-laden? It's been a very abnormally wet and cold year in the mountain west so far. That's very lame that it's warring against your vacation, though :-(

Re: Listen to you, all judgy judge

The overall average ratio of my programs and classes was probably about 80% male and 20% female. So not like engineering or physics, but still definitely male dominated.

Re: Listen to you, all judgy judge

You know, I really am amazed that I spent 7 1/2 years at BYU and never really had any kind of encounters such as the one Katya referenced with her classmate. And I got a degree in plant biology and then one in genetics. I did encounter a lot of guys who seemed a little intimidated, but no one ever i...
