Utah "Count My Vote" Initiative

So, I hadn't really heard about "Count My Vote" until someone approached me today with a petition for it--but I don't listen to the news every day, either. Here's the webpage, if you haven't already heard of it: countmyvoteutah.org/facts/ I've been reading some news articles about "Co...

Re: Credit Cards and their evil users

I don't think credit cards target the poor in the same way that title loans/pay day loan places do. Especially in the last few years. I hate payday loan business commercials with the burning white-hot intensity of a thousand suns. I always get this impression that those businesses are trying to tak...

Re: Christmas traditions

Portia, I think with the Internet it is a lot easier to help your children find good things to experience and learn about and thus have good taste. It's also really easy for them to watch Spongebob episodes all day. So, a double-edged blade. :) (I do love me some Spongebob occasionally, though.) My ...

Re: Difference between "introverted" and "shy"

Haha, I promise I didn't steal his girlfriend. I'm not even sure if he has one--we don't talk, and I don't have one right now. Can you steal something and then not have it? :) I think I agree with the last few commenters/commentators that this is probably just a "him" thing. I don't see ho...

Re: Difference between "introverted" and "shy"

I appreciate everyone's responses. Going by Marduk's helpful definitions, I guess I would classify myself as a shy extrovert. I like being alone sometimes and can usually keep myself content doing random stuff by myself, but sometimes I feel really sad if I don't have friends around to interact with...

Difference between "introverted" and "shy"

So, I will admit to being the asker of question 75255. I appreciated the responses, especially the infographic/comic about introverts, but I am still at my wit's end. I am just not used to living with someone who for all intents and purposes does not acknowledge my existence. In the rare moments whe...

Re: I Dreamed a Dream

Oh my goodness gracious. Last night I had the three craziest dreams in a row, all related. 1. We are in the Last Times. I think there is a war going on--communication has been disrupted everywhere. Everything is chaotic and some family members and I are going to get on a train at night and go to Mis...

Re: Grateful

I'm still getting to know people in my singles ward. I NEED FRIENDS! Today, I had a conversation with another sort-of-new guy that, condensed, reads basically like this: Me: So, I get pretty bored most evenings. If you ever want to, I think it'd be cool to hang out sometime. Other Guy: Yeah! Actuall...

Re: In the news

As I understand it there is a requirement to belong to the teacher's union. The teachers don't have a choice. It's not a requirement in my district--I have managed to get this far through the school year without joining a union, anyway, and I don't think I've received a single missive trying to con...

I gave Stego Lily's response to question 75066 a thumbs-up because of the etymology. I would have given it two thumbs-up, if possible, since she used etymonline.com. I love that site.

Re: What Are Some Things Most Mormons Like That You Dislike?

That really does sound like a beautiful place the way you've described it. Ah, brief moment of peacefulness... :) Of course, in defense of Mormon meetinghouses--since we only have lay clergy, it makes sense they would only be open when they have to be; that way we don't have to pay someone to watch ...

Re: Answers I liked

EDIT: I guess I didn't really address the question. I'd just argue that it's hard not to have Mormon-ness in mind when you think you're in an area with lots of Mormons. I'd think about Catholics if I were in Rome or Italy/Spain in general, for example. Fun With Stereotypes! - - - We should just exp...

Re: Answers I liked

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if someone notices a lot more inappropriate behavior in Utah simply because of the emotional response that is connected to the events (the disgust, surprise, etc. when someone realizes that another Mormon has treated them poorly). It's a lot easier to recognize and ...

"View Active Topics" not functioning

I thought the "View Active Topics" link would be an easy way to see which threads people are currently posting in, instead of having to check each section for new posts. However, when I click on the link, it just says "No suitable matches were found." Is this option disabled for ...

Whoops, this reply is a bit late--but I teach English to grades 10-12. Fun stuff, usually.

Driver's Ed Schools and MY BEAUTIFUL CAR

I arrived home only to have one of my new neighbors let me know that a nearby driver's ed school has been having students practice/demonstrate parallel parking and the like next to MY BEAUTIFUL CAR. I normally park it on the side of the street because I dread backing out of a tiny driveway with two ...

Re: Board applications

It's pretty surprising to me, too. I remember stalking the nethermost regions of the board as a wee freshman and making notes about how one might apply, as if I were trying to uncover an archaeological find. Now one of the Board's most closely-kept (ish) secrets is out in plain sight! If I were stil...
