Re: Gun violence rant
As someone who has been touched by gun violence in a very personal way (my stepdad was shot in the back of the head while he was asleep in the house alone. Still haven't found the person who did it, and probably never will), I can say one thing I want is for every gun to be easier to track somehow i...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
One of my relatives died in the stampede at the Hajj. I'd only met him once, but I feel awful for his wife and my family. He must have been so scared.

Ugh. I. hate. Chicago. I never ever ever ever want to live here again. The teaching job market sucks, the bureaucracy is worse, the city is way in debt, which means taxes just keep going up. As a teacher with 5 years experience including time teaching AP Calculus where I raised the AP pass rate by ...

So I've moved to Houston, and moving is EXHAUSTING, and I feel like I've unpacked SO MUCH, but I still have a lot to do, and my knee REALLY HURTS from going up and down the stairs and being on my feet at school all day.
I'm tired, y'all.

Yeah I need to get my counselor to write a letter because the guy I talked to was like, "Well you got great grades spring term, what makes this suddenly so different? Does depression really have such a sudden onset?" And I was like, no you don't understand, suddenly going from A's to D's ...

Re: Regretting an abortion
Don't the hormonal versions of birth control decrease your libido and possibly cause weight gain and moodiness? I know there's a lower-hormone IUD, but even then, I would be hesitant. This has never been my experience on any type of hormonal birth control, but the Mirena IUD did cause me to have WI...

It's funny because having never been Mormon, though being very interested in all of you as people, I've watched many of you become more "liberal" in your thoughts and attitudes, and yet it just has made perfect sense to me watching that transition. Like, to me you're the same people I &quo...

And I wonder if the strong presence of us non-Mormons is off-putting to some? Not in like a "We hate other religions" way but just in some way? I know I haven't been posting as much as I used to (thanks grad school and teaching), but I try to read everyday, and while I know we are a pretty...

I still find it difficult to believe that I would be barred from visiting my long-term boyfriend if he were run over by a truck. What's the story there? If we had a wedding date, does that change things? Makes no sense. (We're straight, obviously.) I dunno. When my boyfriend was detoxing in the hos...

And see, I was thinking how sad for his friend that he has a lot of dates. It doesn't sound like he's had a real relationship with anyone, whereas the question asker will probably end up with a real and meaningful relationship in the future instead of just perpetual dates.

And it's worse if you're a person of color (which I outwardly very obviously am). You better believe I will NOT talk to the police for ANY reason unless a crime has been committed against me or they are 1000% sure I'm just a witness and not a perpetrator. Thankfully I'm naturally averse to getting i...

Any guy who asks to marry me will have to ask my mom, not my dad. She was my custodial parent growing up, and I'm way closer to her than my dad. My dad hasn't met a single guy I've dated so he gets no say.

It's 4:50 am and I'm still awake because I started watching Agent Carter online. Also I have a yeast infection 1.5 weeks before my wedding. FML. Take a warm bath with salt and apple cider vinegar (obviously rise off afterwards) daily until it goes away. You don't need a lot of water, just up to you...

I like to think I have a thick skin. But being humiliated in front of dozens of my new coworkers (saying the team needed "a woman's touch" as I was presenting a slide in a Super Official Meeting) made me feel like this: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KRBEyCshvlM/VSLId6_avSI/AAAAAAAAFoM/GYhGrcw...
