Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

Also, I was going to say that there are a few other Swahili words that The Lion King might have taught you- simba means lion (go figure), and Rafiki means friend. Also, Asante sana means thank you very much. And there is a scene where Rafiki is chanting "asante sana squashed banana." I lau...

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

Heh. Me, too. And Emiliana, I would be interested in sight-seeing buddies. I'll PM you with more details about when I'll be there. I did find a travel buddy in the most random awesome way ever- I have a couple of really good friends (a married couple) that I do things with fairly often, and I mentio...

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya at the end of November/beginning of December. It started as a trip to Kenya to visit/work with my friend who's starting an NGO in Nairobi and escalated from there. I also just booked permits to go visit the mountain gorillas in Rwanda. High adventure, here we come!

Re: Triathalons

I love this whole thread. And all of you. Too bad things have been so busy lately that I don't come here as often. Also, just to tie it in with the *ahem* topic, I completed a sprint tri this spring and I'm planning on doing more next summer. And Tao, my friend who did it with me said that she had t...

Re: Plants and gardening happiness

Oooh! Oooh! Talk to me about turning your unfinished basement into a greenhouse-nursery for starting plants in!! And quite possibly continuing to grow them all summer! I'm with Marduk. I'm such a plant nerd it's not even funny. But I guess you'd expect that from someone who majored in plant biology ...

Re: Good Ones from Jeopardy!

Russia actually celebrates its independence day from the USSR. I was there for it once. Our Russian hostess thought it was silly. Sounds like she belongs to the camp Marduk's questioning.

Re: Poll: Rereading Books

I volunteered at the Orem library as a teenager and I sometimes got to stamp books with the "discarded" stamp. Those were good times.

Wait, Craig, was that in response to my post? 'Cause it's already been filmed, it's just being broadcast on Sunday . . .

Re: How to help my friend

Heh. This reminds me, just slightly, of my roommate who moved out at the end of July. She's a girl who seems to have a genuine interest in serving and is (mostly) active in church, works in the temple, etc. But she has big depression and anxiety problems and has lots of other health problems like ha...

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

Next Sunday there's going to be lots of broadcasts and tributes to the 9/11 heroes playing all day. The Tabernacle Choir has one with Tom Brokaw that will be playing on NBC affiliate channels a few times- it should be pretty good.

Yeah, quinoa! Incidentally, I can tell you probably just about anything about quinoa that you want to know. It's a very interesting plant. I used to do genetic research on it.

Well, the funny thing is that I thought my chat status was set t unavailable, but it keeps turning back on somehow. It doesn't reset every time you log out of FB, does it? Hm. Interesting theory, krebscout. I have no idea. It wouldn't really change anything from my end except maybe make me more like...

Re: Boy woes

Both very good suggestions, Whistler. I shall do both of them. I would feel not nice to not invite him to *anything* after I was the one who suggested it anyway, and I will make sure it's a large group.
