This is actually a thing
Posting here weird things that turn out to actually be "things," as in, they exist, or people do them.

I read earlier this year that the voice of Admiral Ackbar ("It's a trap!") died this year too.

Read an amusing fan fiction theory today. In Star Wars, when the movies always start with "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away." That's not a long time before us in a galaxy far from the Milky Way, it's being spoken very far, far in the future by someone who was here but is now telli...

Absurd pictures of leaders
Not necessarily while they were leaders. http://www.wwe.com/f/styles/wwe_16_9_xxs/public/video/thumb/2013/02/20070401_trump_vkm.jpg Obviously, the US is well-stocked now, but I wonder what others there are. This is the best I could think of besides Mr. T. https://iconicphotos.files.wordpress.com/201...

Well, it's been almost a whole day, so I guess we're long overdue to see the next campaign start up .

Re: Rant of the Day
A spreadsheet power user is something I've never been. One time I made a Google Docs spreadsheet that on one sheet would automatically keep charting new data added to a pair of columns on the first sheet, but that's about it.

OpenOffice Write if it must be a .doc with formatting is a free option. When I need a nice document, I write using a plain text editor to write a .tex file and then pdflatex to make a nice PDF document.

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
I started applying for my current software job in late October of last year and started this past March. So a little over four months for me. Hopefully quicker than that for you.

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Heh, I was at my old game of seeing who bought the domains of common nouns and found an interesting thing. If you go to paper.com, it goes to officedepot.com, specifically, to the results of a product search on paper. I was expecting Office Depot to have nabbed pencil.com too, but that seems to be s...

Germans have some great words
Backpfeifengesicht: A face that needs to be punched.
Even as he laid on his catafalque, the old liar's backpfeifengesicht exuded an unreal lifelike impression that you'd better hold onto your wallet.

I ended up laying a 1/16" bead of Elmer's straight from the orange nozzle and laying a pile of books on the book for 24 hours. Now the segment is stuck as tightly to the spine as all the other segments. I was initially worried I didn't put enough glue, but I should have known that with glue, le...

Spent multiple hundreds on an immediately needed replacement of bad radiator, thermostat, and hoses. It's bittersweet being out the money while feeling safe against the threat of overheating halfway through my long daily commute.

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
I'm in the market for some adhesive intended to be safe for use with book pages. Big pluses would be if it were in an easy non-Costco-sized applicator bottle not unlike an Elmer's glue bottle, and on Amazon, since I have some "store credit" there from doing Mechanical Turk tasks. A whole s...

Are Chinese measure words similar in that you need to know the Right one for the thing you're talking about. If I remember correctly, ge is pretty commonly used, but many classes of things have a Right measure word that should be used.

I wonder if it's any easier to start with a solved cube and go through the motions of trying to get to each possible configuration within 20 moves or less.
