I liked the "negatives only" question because it's a fascinating aspect of linguistics. It reminded me of a book I read a few years ago called "The Mother Tongue," which was an excellent read about the history of the English language. I heartily recommend it to anyone who finds linguistics interesting (as a side note, I am not studying humanities in college or anything like unto it. I still loved it).

well, i don't know about favorite...but the one that definitely caught my attention was Have you ever been tricked by a boy into "watching the submarine races"?

my resulting thought process was something like this:

...huh?...oooohh...haha!...no...dang it...could i maybe trick a boy into that?...hmm...maybe a bad idea...i am a horrible person...dang...where do they find these guys?... probably wouldn't work for me anyway...and i really meant to go to squaw peak before i moved...oh well...at least then i'm not a really horrible person...oh my...okay, focus...did they just say that you shouldn't be on the internet while you're in class?...

My favorit foriegn word is pomme de terre, French for potatoe. Directly translated it is apple of the earth, which I've always found funny.

I enjoyed several questions yesterday.

http://theboard.byu.edu/index.php?area=viewall&id=38422 (name changes / marriage)

I already mentioned that I especially liked steen's answer on this one, since I have had personal experience in the resulting confusion.

http://theboard.byu.edu/index.php?area=viewall&id=38454

In terms of the actual question (regardless of the answer), this one about being a dancer and yet being a klutz made me laugh (and I could relate).

http://theboard.byu.edu/index.php?area=viewall&id=38448 (Crown Burger)

Somehow, it seems like this is the process to get anything these days . . . an ID card, a cell phone, a job . . .

http://theboard.byu.edu/index.php?area=viewall&id=38428 ("Thus Saith the Lord")

Bro. Wilson is an awesome teacher/employer, and I happen to know he has a soft spot for Board-related people.

http://theboard.byu.edu/index.php?area=viewall&id=38431 (C.S. Lewis)

This made me want to go and count. :P

http://theboard.byu.edu/index.php?area=viewall&id=38440 (LSAT/fasting)

I thought this was very sound advice.

Hmm . . . this is more difficult than I would have thought . . .

I will go with the C. S. Lewis one because it is still open-ended, just begging to be answered definitively.

Easy. One hundred things to do http://theboard.byu.edu/index.php?area=viewall&id=38472 , because not only did the thought of someone making out in an elevator make me laugh, but K&G was cool enough to do it.

Why does it make you laugh? I plan on some good elevator kissing, next time I'm dating someone. Sounds like a blast and a cliche to prove true to me!

elevator kissing

Post by Dark Chocolate »

Well, apparently I am just not with it. Is this a clichéd thing to do? I don't think it would ever even occur to me (hence it making me laugh: the element of surprise). Elevator rides are too short for my taste, when it comes to kissing. How long are they: 25 seconds? Maybe this should become the next Church Chastity Talk standard: "You can kiss, but only as long as an elevator ride lasts."

My most unusual kissing experience would probably have to involve one of the Green Rooms in the HFAC . . . it lasted a tad longer than half a minute :) . . .

Movies? It always seems like as soon as the hero and heroine get in an elevator, they're all over each other before the doors finish closing. I've always laughed, and secretly loved the idea.

You reminded me of my favorite elevator movie scene, Uffish.

I watched a Korean (no subtitles) (I don't speak Korean) movie with my friend. (The title involved "My Man Something or Other.") The man is in the elevator with the superstar model chick. Instead of the obligatory makeout scene, a cockroach crawls out of his underwear!

I had no idea how it got there, or how it related to the plot. That was such a trippy, amazing movie.
