It's been awhile since one of these was put up, so I'm perusing the last week's worth of questions. There may be more options than normal, but there's a broader selection to draw from, so that's not unexpected.

I vote to get rid of the Dakotas. I don't think North Dakota actually exists anyway.
I will slay the dragon myself, thank you very much.

But you can't even remember which one it was? That seems to be further evidence that they should just be combined in my book.

I actually know people from both North *and* South Dakota. How uncommon is that? There's a kid in my ward from South Dakota, and I used to have some semi-distant family in North Dakota. But I agree that it's kind of silly to have two Dakotas. Where does the word "Dakota" come from, anyway?

It's the name of a one of the Sioux indian tribes. One web site claims that the word means "friend." (I.e., the Dakotas referred to themselves as "the friends," as opposed to outsiders or strangers.)

I'm pretty sure it was North, but not 100%. This was a couple of years ago . . .

Well, it looks like there was a historical reason for the split:
After controversy over the location of a capital, the Dakota Territory was split in two and divided into North and South in 1889. ( http://www.americaslibrary.gov/cgi-bin/ ... 2&month=11 )
So, if we were to have Dakota, where would the capital be?

My cousin served his mission there and I think he said there are two wards in North Dakota. The Rapid City South DakotaDakota ward and the Moorehead Minnesota ward.
That's a joke. I guess one of those lame mission jokes. There was a good bit on the Weekend Update with Tina Fey a while ago, North Dakota wanted to drop the 'North' because it implied frigidity and barren-wastelandedness instead of the tropical wonderland you see here;

Actually, South Dakota does have significantly high tourism than North Dakota, presumably because people group the Dakotas together in their heads, and if you have to go to one of them, it might as well be the one that at leasts sounds warmer.

The fact that Mt. Rushmore is in South Dakota has nothing to do with it.

My aunt, who is English, tells me that many Europeans are under the impression that Mt. Rushmore is actually in Canada.

Well! We'll just give the Dakotas to Canada! It solves everybody's problems!

I like it! The Canadians would just LOVE to have a mountain with US Presidents' faces on it!

I'm pretty sure Canada would hate us even more if we tried to dump the Dakotas on them. It's like the USA is saying, "here little brother, have this, because I have no use for it anymore. Oh, and it's really cold. Enjoy!"

As I explained in my post, I don't really think that giving away land is the American way. Even the Dakotas.
