Running a search on your brains
Running a search on your brains
So, I'm trying to find something here, but the Search page keeps returning 0 results, and even when I tell Google to search this site (like this) , it gets 0 results. So as a fallback effort, I'm running a search on your collective memory.
I'm looking for a thread that had some discussion about how it would be nice if when a comment is rejected on the Board, it notified the comment submitter. There was also some discussion of how it should be done in a way that doesn't compromise reader identities, I believe.
I'm finally getting around to implementing this, and I'm trying to figure out what the concern about compromising reader identities was. Help?

http://www.theboardboard.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1768 is one. There was another one, though, where Marduk got very discouraged about it . . .
Re: Running a search on your brains
Yeah, i remember that one where Marduk got depressed. But I can't find it. And I think that may be where it was.

The internal search now works, by the way, though I haven't tried looking for that post yet. I'm looking into why we're not getting indexed by Google, but haven't found out why not yet.

Re: Running a search on your brains
Maybe. I think it gives me enough information to start with, anyway.
Re: Running a search on your brains
Okay. As of today, you should get an email if one of your Board comments is deleted. Naturally, this only works if your email address is set up correctly in your Board profile. The email includes a link to the question you commented on, the text of your comment, and a brief reason for why it was rejected. Hopefully the editors will take the time to give useful feedback; I know from experience that it's often tempting to just delete them all with a generic "Doesn't meet the comment criteria."
In case anyone is concerned, the email is sent automatically, so the editors never see your email address during this process.

Yep! Once you log in, go to your account information by clicking on your name (at the top of the left-hand sidebar). Once there, click "edit" next to "User Profile" and you can change your e-mail address, among other things.Katya wrote:Is there a way to change one's Board email?

Am I right in assuming that two accounts cannot share the same email address?Laser Jock wrote:Yep! Dost my eyes decieve me? Katya, you have a second account? The patron saint dared to blaspheme by making a second account? No more prayers to you!

Heh. I had a second account thrust upon me after my first retirement, because I was still doing cleanup work in the archives.Dead Cat wrote:Dost my eyes decieve me? Katya, you have a second account? The patron saint dared to blaspheme by making a second account? No more prayers to you!

I'm almost positive that's the case, but I'm not in a position to double check right at the moment. You can try setting them both to the same if you'd like to see for yourself.Katya wrote:Am I right in assuming that two accounts cannot share the same email address?
Re: Running a search on your brains
You can probably do something like [email protected] and [email protected]. Both of those will be sent to the same email address; anything in the name after the '+' is essentially ignored when sending email.
I use this technique when registering on most websites; I'll do [email protected] for registering at cnn.com, and [email protected] for registering at facebook. That way, if I start getting spam sent to [email protected], it's easy to block just that one.

I want to be Yellow when I grow up (in the sense of height, I suppose, since he's younger than I am).

For some reason, I find it utterly adorable that both you and the Heartless Siren married younger men.Dragon Lady wrote:Both.Katya wrote:Is he younger than you? (Or just taller?)
