Worst pregnancy
http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/62150/
This probably isn't as bad as throwing up constantly, but here's the worst I've heard of. I went to high school with a guy who is really tall. Like 6'6". His whole family is also really tall. He got married (his wife is tall, but not as tall as him), and they had a baby. The baby was nearly 14 pounds when he was born, and I don't remember the exact length but he was pretty long. That's like giving birth to twins but having to push them out simultaneously.

All of my siblings were in the 10-12 lb range. And I think the longer the better, it's head and shoulder girth that makes birthing difficult.

Re: Worst pregnancy
My husband's cousin and his wife win my title for worst birth story. She had a horribly, horribly long labor with the first one, after which they finally gave up and went for a C-Section. So for the second one, she was just happy that it would be a scheduled C-Section without any drama. Well, it turns out that the spinal block didn't actually take. They didn't realize this until they cut into her and she screamed in pain. But at that point, they couldn't re-do the needle, since they would have to flip her over to work on that and she was already open in the front. So she got to feel every single moment of the C-Section.
In terms of actual pregnancy struggles, I have a friend who spends just about the entire nine months puking, and has such high blook pressure with each baby that her doctors watch her like a hawk.

Re: Worst pregnancy
My mother had a pretty tough time with my second youngest sister. By the end she couldn't sleep in a bed at all and had to borrow a recliner from her friends, which she then lived in.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.
Re: Worst pregnancy
My mom had bad pregnancies with both me and my sister. I can't remember all the horrible stuff she dealt with my sister, but all that she had with me too. Then, of course, after she invoked Murphy's law about how it couldn't possibly get worse, she got Bell's palsy--on both sides of her face. In all of my birth pictures, my mom is looking at the camera like a deer in the headlights because her face was completely nonfunctional--she does assure me that she was happy, though. If I ever write an autobiography, the first line will be, "When I was born, my mom didn't smile."

Re: Worst pregnancy
I know quite a few people who had complications during delivery and nearly died -- my mother being one of them (it's all my fault ... it's okay, I'm over it and she forgives me). But as far as difficult pregnancies, I've only seen those in the movies.

Re: Worst pregnancy
Ok, this made me laugh. A lot. That, my dear, is what we call morning sickness. I remember a few weeks into my second trimester when I started being giddy that I was only throwing up once every 2-3 days instead of 2-3 times per day. And I by no means consider my pregnancy to be among the worst I know.Mico wrote:Anyway, this woman I know has been pregnant for about six months now and for the first three months she was sick, throwing up every single day.
My sister was bedridden for approx. her last trimester of her third pregnancy. She already had two boys and was going to school full time for her last semester in school. And she had to finish that semester, because her husband was also finishing that semester and then they were moving. Luckily her teachers were fantastic. I went and helped her for a week and was there when one of her teachers came over to administer a test at her house. He gave it to her, then went into the kitchen and graded the rest of the tests while he waited for her.
That same sister was bedridden twice more with her next 3 kids.
One of my sisters-in-law was hospitalized for the last month (or three? I don't remember) with her last kid.
I think that's the extent of my bad pregnancy stories. (Though, I do have a great fertility story that always makes me laugh.)

Re: Worst pregnancy
I never threw up (except during labor). Had some body pains, hip issues, and trouble sleeping, but all-around I think my pregnancies were pretty easy. I do have a friend who got Bell's palsy, but only on one side of the face.
Re: Worst pregnancy
Fair enough! That was badly phrased -- hers really was beyond normal morning sickness. I don't think most women end up losing 30 pounds and going to the hospital because they were throwing up so much. Sorry about the poor phrasing though, yes, I know about morning sicknessDragon Lady wrote:Ok, this made me laugh. A lot. Re: Worst pregnancy
This isn't exactly a bad pregnancy story, but my friend's husband wound up delivering her baby in the living room. It was her third baby, and her other two labors had been really long. So when she started having contractions, she called the doctor and asked if it would be okay for her to stay at home until she was closer to delivering. Then suddenly, Baby decided it was time to come! They called 911 and the paramedics talked her husband through the delivery. And THEN they went to the hospital. Baby number 4 is due this May ... I'm kind of doubting they're going to try that again.

Re: Worst pregnancy
Emiliana, that reminded me of a similar story. (I think my stories tend to be labor stories rather than pregnancy stories, but oh well.) The daughter of a woman from my home ward was pregnant, and it was her 3rd or 4th kid, so she had been through it before. She also only lived about half a block from the hospital, so she wasn't too worried about getting there. Her water had broken, but I guess she wasn't having too many contractions, so she thought she still had lots of time, and she and her husband were just kind of going around the house gathering up stuff to take to the hospital. She had to go the bathroom, so she went, and then she started screaming for her husband, who went in to find her on the bathroom floor with the baby on its way out. He called 911, and said, "My wife's in labor, what do I do?" The asked him how far apart the contractions were, and he said, "I can see the baby's head!!" So that one ended up being born on the bathroom floor, although the ambulance did show up only a couple of minutes after the baby came out, so living close to the hospital still ended up being an advantage.
