Non-immigrant US Visa status contingencies

Post by Digit »

Re: 62638, is it really the case that in order for non-immigrant foreign nationals studying in the US, they must make sure their state of affairs back home doesn't conflict with US laws or their student visas could be revoked, or that they must make sure their state of affairs is in accordance with US laws in order to even get approved for a visa? What if in their country they legally own something that it's illegal to own in the US, like I, I don't know, some exotic animal that you can't even have here with a permit(not looking for tangents)? Or an Iranian that sold his kidney for money (which is legal in Iran). Or some other thing?

Yeah, D.A.R.E.'s answer is incorrect. You can't be admitted into the U.S. as a permanent resident if you intend to practice polygamy within the U.S., but it's not a violation of U.S. laws for foreign nationals to be legally married to multiple wives in their home country.
