Should I change my name to Humble Doctor now?
I passed my dissertation defense today. I now have a PhD in American Studies.

Oh, heaven help us all. Humble Doctor?!
But despite my fear for the size of your head (which, let's be honest, isn't anything new), Congrats! I hope someday to see you teaching at BYU. And if you ever teach a Harry Potter class, I'll consider auditing it to make sure you get details right.![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Personally, I like "Doctor Master" much better.

Congratulations, dude. I'm excited for you, and jealous.

When I first read the title of this thread, I assumed Dr. Smeed was involved somehow, like you were coming out that he was your super-secret identity or you were joined at the hip in a freak accident or something.
Anyway, congrats Dottore Modesto!

That's so cool, Humble Master! I just graduated with my degree in American Studies from BYU last year. Can I ask where you did your PhD program and what you studied as an undergrad?
Re: Should I change my name to Humble Doctor now?
Just change it to Doctor, there's no need to be humble anymore.

Congrats! Now go out there and... um... study some Americans?
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

My undergrad and Masters were at BYU in the English program. I'm at Michigan State now.Sharona Fleming wrote:That's so cool, Humble Master! I just graduated with my degree in American Studies from BYU last year. Can I ask where you did your PhD program and what you studied as an undergrad?

Congrats! Hopefully you can avoid the guillotines beheading higher education in particular and the social sciences and humanities in particular! With your creativity and intelligence, I know you'll get tenure or that comic book store job, whatever it is you and your Lois Lane decide! ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
If there's a PDF copy anywhere and you don't mind sharing, I'd love to read it. I'm nerdy that way: I read PhD dissertations for fun...

I think the most important question that can be asked in this thread is this: which comic book movie are you most excited for this summer?

As soon as I get the formatting worked out with Proquest I'll let you know.Portia wrote:If there's a PDF copy anywhere and you don't mind sharing, I'd love to read it. I'm nerdy that way: I read PhD dissertations for fun...
Thor. I'm most worried about Green Lantern (which I would have anticipated to be the most sure fire adaptation of the bunch before I saw trailers for any of them). Captain America looks solid and has good buzz, and X-Men: First Class is winning me over with their trailers.wired wrote:I think the most important question that can be asked in this thread is this: which comic book movie are you most excited for this summer?

Hahaha, I WISH I were involved somehow. It has been a lasting regret that I have never met Humble Master, much less been joined at the hip in a freak accident with him.
By the way, I am no longer Dr. Smeed. I am Second Lieutenant Smeed. Now that I have a real title in real life, I might as well use it.
