My thought was "Is it better to man up and kill it, or is it better to let it run away and make more baby cockroaches?

Y'know, all of my apartments had serious cockroach infestations when I first got to them, but by the time I left, only one of them had a minor infestation to speak of. The rest were GONE. I did the same thing to fruit flies. And sometimes ants.

Today I finally got around to vacuuming my room, including a corner that had a large web. When I approached, I realized that the spider who owned the web was still alive, not dead as I had supposed (having never seen any activity over there), and I thought of this thread and hesitated.

Still sucked up web and spider (assuming it didn't escape while I was hesitating). Sorry, spider, but you may not set up camp in my room.

I didn't mind living with cockroaches on my mission. I actually thought it was kind of fun to turn on the lights at night and watch them scuttle away. I think I connect with them better than I do with spiders. I think spiders are much more intelligent than I am, so that's what scares me most about them. They know things.

Hey. I live across the street from an orchard in a house that would be literally impossible to seal in a way to keep insects out. I just don't want them to be visible in my room.

Fun fact: according to my friend's marketing class, bug spray used to be much more effective, killing bugs immediately. But when they made the spray less potent, it sold better, because people actually preferred to watch the bugs suffer and die.

Vacuuming a spider doesn't kill it. They can crawl out later after the vacuum is off.
