Weird.
Oh also Long Time No See to you.

Should I do my one-page linguistics assignment on metaphors about President Uchtdorf using airplanes as analogous to our lives/how we go through life, or more generally faith as a building? Both are fun.
Anyone have a better religious metaphor they think I should do a little research on?
ETA: I'm going with airplanes, since they seem a bit more unique to LDS culture.

Hehe. You could go with the boiling frog one. It's not solely LDS, but it's common.
Also it's a lie. That frog would jump right the crap out.

I know! (But I only know because you told me.)UffishThought wrote:Hehe. You could go with the boiling frog one. It's not solely LDS, but it's common.

Ahaha, that's a good one, too! Especially since one of the questions is like "what aspects of the metaphor do not work," for which one could say, "actually, the whole metaphor is built on a faulty premise."

Uffish, I always tell people, after that story, that if they want to boil frogs the best thing to do is invest in a lid.

Or just impair part of the brain, which is apparently what the guy who did that experiment did.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

So, my Calc classes started learning about indefinite integrals today, and it felt slightly weird writing my nym on the board every period.

Sometimes I try to do this: http://www.donothingfor2minutes.com/
It's surprisingly hard for me. My thought process goes a lot like this. "Ooh, this is nice, just sitting and not doing anything and do you think there's anything new on facebook? I could multitask and just alt-tab over to that while this is running and--wait. No, I couldn't. Work on breathing, that's better. I wish the waves were a little louder, I should turn up the vol--wait, no. That's a key, and that messes it up. Well, fine, if I can't do any computer things, maybe I'll go grab a book and--no. No, sit STILL."

I would try, but I know there's no chance of me winning.
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
I just did it, while munching on an apple (good way to start the day, thanks Uffish). I imagine if it was the middle of the day I wouldn't be able to do it. Also, it was really hard for me to focus on anything on the screen besides the countdown, which took away from the relaxing element.

Apparently, competitive sitting is a sport (to some, at least). Which confirms to me that humans can take anything too far.
"It's all about determination," said Miller, who displayed incredible inertia in listlessly viewing massive television screens for 72 straight, sleepless hours.

Hey, turns out I DID win. And have decided that that is also the most useful pre-test cramming tool ever. The relaxation is great.
