This question reminded me of a guy in my plant genetics program who would always ask, "Why do girls like it when guys give them flowers? The guy's basically saying, 'Hey, I like you, so here are some plant reproductive organs.' Isn't a gift of reproductive organs just creepy?"

We tried to explain to him that normal people don't see it like that, but he was never convinced.

My younger sister forgot her lunch one day at school, and mid-morning someone came on the PA telling her to report to the front office, so she was like, "sweet, Mom dropped off my lunch for me," but when she got there it was to find that a boy had left flowers for her with a note asking her to a dance. And when she went back to class with them all the girls oohed and aahed, and said "awww, he brought you flowers? That is so sweet," but she was really disappointed because she had been expecting food.
