For what it's worth my friend went to USU a couple years ago and joined a sorority. She was probably 26. So yeah age is not a valid reason to not at least try to rush.

Edit: pledge? not really up on sorority lingo now that she's graduated and not talking about KD all the time.

^ Yeah, there are all kinds of sororities and fraternities and they aren't all the traditional sex and party all the time stereotype. My cousin was in a sorority in undergrad, and I've met some of her sorority sisters over the years when I've gone to visit her family, and they are multicultural, LGBT-accepting, all shapes and sizes (my cousin is plus-sized like I am), a lot of them were science majors, and I think a few of them were single mothers. They did a lot of service and academic activities, and a lot of them didn't even drink.

This was good. I think it's important for people to learn that when you become an adult, it doesn't mean you can do whatever you want, it just means people can't tell your parents about it. Where I live, the drinking age is 18, and when I was in high school they used to have a meeting every year for everyone who would turn 18 before the year ended where they told them that yes, they were old enough to drink and the school couldn't tell their parents about it, but if they came to school drunk or were drinking at school, the school would still call the police because drinking in public is illegal.

I loved the original. Loved. It.

A. It made me realize that I really do have the fabulous career with all the perks, so I should quit my whining about how "stressful" it is (yes, I'm sure it's stressful compared to an emergency department or rehab facility or logging trees. NOT.)

B. It made me realize that I really have dated fabulous men, who are unambiguously hot, brilliant, and the top of their class, and that I should quit my whining about how "hard" relationships are. (Oh, how awkward, you had to run into another one of your admirers today, Portia. Boohoo.)

C. Cognoscente has always been a standup dude, but his Thoreauvian reality slap was just what I needed.

I liked the "causticness." And anyway, to both the chicks, I'd just remind you that even a life of money, prestige, hot men, and great careers has its share of sorrow. Your parents can still die, your heart can still be broken, your can still fall out with your friends, and so on. Money's a nice buffer from those basic problems, but I didn't wake up one day and find instant happiness, despite having a lot of the things people want. (If that makes sense.)

At any rate, I'm going to try to have a more positive attitude to my "trials" going forward!
