Question http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/77907/
I thought about making a comment on the Board, but was discouraged by the warning that my comment should "not simply contain unsolicited answers, opinions, experiences." So, I'll leave my unsolicited experience here.
It sounds to me that the "Good Point" is using an old, dried up pencil eraser. Old erasers don't work as well as new erasers. Perhaps the problem is worse in areas of dry climates, such as Utah.
Sometimes you can scrape off the outside of the eraser with a sharp knife and get it to work properly again. http://www.ehow.com/how_8105738_recondi ... asers.html
I've heard soaking it in water will help, sometimes. http://www.thriftyfun.com/Reviving-Drie ... ers-1.html
What good is the eraser on the pencil?
