Flattering Tinder Guy
So I'll admit, I have a tinder and I just started talking with a guy today. He seems fun but something also seems a little off. His first message was "Hey there, You are really cute! Would you happen to have a winning combination of looks and soul? Cause I think you are probably pretty awesome." I don't usually respond to overly flirtatious messages but I took a chance on this one. After texting back and forth for about an hour he said "Get some good sleep! Dream of that new tinder guy that thinks you are cute! (hint, that's me)" then closed with "goodnight cutie". I'm extremely flattered but it all just seems a little over the top. What do you all think?

My (secular) friend who's on tinder gets much, much more overtly flirtatious messages. If it makes you uncomfortable, you don't have to keep messaging the guy, but to me it just sounds like tinder culture.

Ehh, seems like online dating to me. If you think you could like the guy, keep talking and maybe see him eventually.

If it makes you feel better, I met my current boyfriend on Tinder, and his first messages were very flirtatious.

Thanks for the reassurance. I usually shy away from guys who talk too smooth because it seems like they have too much practice. I'm meeting him tonight so, fingers crossed!

How'd it go? I hope your Tinder luck is better than mine was. :-)

Not bad, he was very touchy (which I don't mind) and fun to talk to. He's definitely not my usual type but things haven't worked out with my usual type yet, so maybe branching out is a good thing.

Nope. He hasn't contacted me since Wednesday night so I guess that makes my decision easy. This is the second time this has happened so I'm curious what changes between texting to in person conversation that makes guys lose interest. I seem to remember a writer who said they would go out with a reader to give them an honest opinion about what they were doing wrong. Does anyone remember the question I'm referencing?

It was Anne, I think.
