Every day I see a young, charismatic PM of a prosperous, free, functioning country less than 1,000 miles to the north, and I see a jackbooted thug gain traction in my own country, and I feel betrayed.

I think it is safe to say that many Trump followers would feel the same way about The Bern, maybe a little less for Clinton. Just for different ideological reasons.
If you look at it that way, sideways, your feelings are more common than you'd think.
BUT.
I'm not going to pretend to be a Trump fan. I'm not. I think he's running a vague big-tent campaign meant to entrap those who have felt victimized by both parties (yes, including the party he's running under). The only thing keeping me calm is that politicians tend to over-promise during candidacy and under-deliver during their term. History is my comforter.
