Listen straight people, your opinions about whether Elder Oaks (or any general authority) has said something harmful to LGBT Mormons don’t matter. Like, they matter to you, but they are a bad way of evaluating the effect of the talk on LGBT members. Talk to ACTUAL QUEER MORMONS about the talk. FFS.
I wrote this about the press conference, not the talk, but the overall issue (lecturing people about the commandments without extending love) is the same. https://medium.com/@j_n_foster/dear-pre ... 1519671376

FOR REAL THOUGH. Want to know how someone in a marginalized group is affected by something? Look for a perspective from inside that group. AND THEN BELIEVE WHAT THEY SAY. AND DON'T JUST CHERRYPICK THE TOKEN ONE WHO GETS PUBLICLY PRAISED FOR NOT CAUSING A FUSS. Don't just look around you, shrug, and declare that all is well in Zion.
I just want to shake people. Stop. Stop it. Stop.
