I had a dog once who got some ugly lumps on her tummy. Turned out to be cancer.

That's ... encouraging? But since we can't even find a vet who knows enough about dogs to tell us if she's pregnant (vets in my part of the world tend to deal with cows and goats rather than pets), I'm pretty sure there's not much to be done about it if it *is* cancer.

Maybe your lumpy dog just has benign lipomas? My family's old yellow lab grew a ton of them on his stomach in the couple of years before he died (from unrelated causes). It was like petting a furry bag of balled-up socks.

Like Darth Fedora says it might be benign. My dog was also about 13 years old when she got this problem. I suspect that cancer would be rare in a 9 month old dog like yours, Emiliana.

I just asked 3d for a ride to work in the morning. I feel a little guilty, but he was getting up at six anyway, 5:45 to make sure a girl gets to work on time safely isn't that much earlier.

Vorpal, no worries about the negativity. We kind of have to have a sense of humor about our pets around here ... most don't live more than a few years. I mean, I'd be sad if she died, but that would be the fourth pet we've lost in a year -- you can't afford to grieve them too much.

To clarify what I meant about "lumpy," though, it's not quite like lipomas or tumors. Have you seen pictures of malnourished children who have distended bellies from worms? Imagine that look, but on a dog. Her shoulders and hips stick out at weird angles because she has so little body fat, but her belly keeps getting wider. We're thinking more and more that she's pregnant. We just can't figure out how it happened.
