i've been feeling very blue lately. almost all of my friends are in serious, happy relationships or marriages. my best friend is having a baby. i just feel like i am SURROUNDED by all of this domestic bliss, and i'm still single with NO prospects for a serious relationship and it makes me sad. i always thought i'd be married by now. and i know i'm young, but i am still freaking out.

I'm kinda in the same boat, Imogen. I have days where I'm pretty okay with being single, and days when I'm really, really not. Sorry you're having a rough time right now. Feel free to message me if you ever need someone to commiserate.

That's fun, Imogen! What exactly are a best man's traditional duties besides making sure the groom doesn't get cold feet?

well, i'm supposed to supervise the bachelor party, and i'm sure there are other things that will come up as time goes on. i'm very close to the bride too, so i'll probably do some wedding planning as well.

A new embarrassing moment in the life of Rifka today: I went to my sister's church today to watch her baby being blessed. As I was leaving the church, I was walking through the parking lot and my wrap-around skirt felt a little loose. I looked down and saw that the whole thing was at my feet! Yikes! Thank goodness a) it was not my own ward, so I didn't know anyone there and b) it was just after Sacrament so there were only a couple of people in the parking lot.
Needless to say I've been checking my skirt ties all day because I'm paranoid now . . .

that reminds me of the time when I was wearing a skirt with a fairly long slit in it. it was only just above my knees, but the skirt was ankle length. Anyway, I had to be at church early one morning and as I'm about to sit for sacrament meeting and save seats for my family, an older woman in the ward informed me that there was a slit in my skirt. I laughed it off, and she kept insisting. Turns out that I'd ripped the slit all the way to the top without noticing. Yeah, I left the chapel, called my mom and had a new skirt for the remaining meetings.

That exact thing happened to me once about 10 years ago! Only it was in the parking lot of my own church, and my brother and possibly the stake president saw it.

i've learned a lot about Utah because of this show. I didn't know the bee was so important out there.

It's an important symbol. I wouldn't say the actual insect is particularly revered. (Utah's not a big agricultural state, although we do have some orchards and farms.)

Yeah, like Katya says, it's symbolic. The state motto is "industry," and if you visit historic Utah buildings, like Brigham Young's homes (one of which is called the Beehive House) or the Salt Lake Temple, you'll see beehives depicted fairly often in decorative motives. It's all to do with working hard, something the Mormon settlers felt very strongly about.

I had a dream last night about making out with a now-married ex-boyfriend. Ugh. I feel really gross.

I had a dream I was in a movie with a bunch of famous people. (Also, my uncle, who is not a movie star.)

The cat is getting very tired of her seven babies. We had to trick her into the box today to feed them because four of them didn't gain very much and one of them lost weight.

I'm thinking of opening another savings account and naming it my puppy fund. I really, really want a puppy, and I really, really can't afford it right now.
