I'm so sad I can't make it to Alonzo Gaskill's lecture at education week today. Anyone going (or willing to go) that wants to take really good notes and share them with me? Gonna be fascinating! Symbolism of clothing, I think.

I of course wasn't there, but it seems like male hat usage dropped off sharply after the 40s-50s compared to the 60s and onward. That's my perception, at least.

I'm guessing no one went? Ah well. I recall there being a pretty good section on clothing in his "Lost Language of Symbolism" book, and I expect there's more in his "Sacred Symbols: Finding Meaning in Rites, Rituals and Ordinances." You just don't get his irreverent sense of humor and mile-a-minute prattle there. But if you're still interested, C, it's worth visiting the library for.

I went to New Hampshire to visit my cousin and his wife and their kids.

I'm DONE my testing for my summer research project Now I just have to go back through and convert all the units to Imperial, because it's for the American branch of the company, even though they've got the Canadian research group doing it. America, Y U NO use Celsius?

Haha, me write a program. That's funny.

I only tested at 85, 95, and 105 degrees Celsius, so the conversion itself isn't a pain. The pain is inserting the degree sign into Microsoft Word, and going back into Excel and changing the titles of my graphs, and then putting them back into Word and re-formatting everything, because computers hate me.

It was. I hadn't seen them since they got married, so it was fun to see their kids who are not-quite-3 years and 8 months. (My mom says that the almost-3-year-old reminds her a lot of what I was like when I was that age, so it was fun to get that perspective. And their baby is super mellow.)

It was also a beautiful part of the state to drive through. I could do worse than to go on road trips through state routes in western Maine and central NH.

Has anyone ever talked to a marriage/relationship counselor? I very much was raised in a "buck up and figure it out" family, but I honestly think my issues could affect my quality of life.

All a good counselor does is help you "figure it out" for yourself. (And I think that going to any kind of counselor counts as being brave and "bucking up.")

The first counselor in my bishopric passed away unexpectedly last night. I suddenly can't remember what to do in these circumstances. Food? Card?

A visit, I think. And that way you can see if they need some food or other help.

Ask someone in the RS Presidency if there's a way you can help (like, if they're organizing food, so they don't get 200 lasagnas the first day or something.) On that note, make sure whatever you give can be frozen. When my Aunt died, they ended up with their freezer completely full of food for like 6 months.
