Interesting. Fetal testis produces testosterone from cholesterol. There is a peak of production around 15 weeks of gestation (the "masculinization programming window"). So the genotype of the foetus can affect testosterone levels directly via effects on the biosynthesis of the hormone, or indirectly by defective regulation of the pathway's activity.
However, exposure to chemicals in the mother's environment is also thought to play a part in determining testosterone levels. The classic example of this is the phthalate esters used as plasticizers.
So little boys make their own, and if a little girl has long ring fingers, she must have gotten it from her mom.

I'm intrigued by this real buttermilk. I already like the stuff you get in grocery stores that they're badmouthing--I drink it straight. It would be interesting to try more authentic stuff and see how it differs. I wonder if I'd like it, too.

Favorite line: "The liquid that remains is buttermilk: naturally defatted milk, with microscopic traces of butter that leave a haunting, rich flavor and a creamy mouth feel. "
What exactly qualifies a flavor as "haunting"?

I interpret "haunting flavor" to mean "startling aftertaste."

I interpret haunting flavor to mean "By all accounts, it should taste good。 But there’s just something wrong with it, so it doesn't。"I may or may not have eaten several of those foods before。

Bing it!
I'm kind of glad that's never going to catch on.
1) It sounds kind of inappropriate, somehow.
2) "Bing" means 'disease' or 'virus' in Chinese.
In other words, translated from Chinglish, it would become "Hey, let's go give it a virus!"

Guys, my roommate is a total nutbar. Last night, she went into the middle of the living room and yelled at the top of her lungs in Korean for about half an hour straight at 3 am. I'm so tired today, for some reason.

My roommate made me try it the other day. In two sets of five, Google won once, Bing won twice, and there was a draw seven times. That's apparently the first time he hasn't seen Google win.

I'm not sure they're related to the white wormies that infested our kitchen a few Saturdays ago, but I'm pretty sure I just identified our other frequent kitchen pest as flying termites. And the flying kind are "indicative of a mature colony." wooooo

So I am making an effort to attend institute more often. This is only partially related to my calling to my ward's institute counsel. My stake only has it on Thursday night, and I work every other Thursday. So I texted a few friends and after weighing the options (including distance to walk, likelihood of seeing someone I know and my ability to consistently attend) decided to go to my friend 3d's stake institute the weeks I work on Thursday. I was kind of excited about this all day. A fresh stake full of boys I don't know and actually doing something social like on my own. Any way, I got there early, sat down and started talking with the couple sitting behind me. I noticed 3d walk in and said hi. He came over and started to sit by me. I told him that he didn't have to sit by me. He shrugged said something about not seeing anyone he knew and sat down anyway. After institute he saw a friend from his ward(henceforth known as Aardvark) and the two of them were talking. I was walking beside the two of them as they were chatting, with Aardvark in the middle. 3d eventually got around to introducing me to Aardvark . Aardvark responded with "Yeah I figured you were together". For some reason this bugged me. I brushed it off, explaining my work/calling/institute situation. No one dwelt on it and it wasn't a big deal. But I'm trying to figure out why that statement bugged me so much. Was it that 3d and I get along so well together? Was it that Aardvark was cute? Probably though it was just that I've been exhausted all week and it was something other than programming to think about. Stupid programming and allergies muddling my mind and getting frustrated when friends act like friends and don't ignore my presence.
On another note, I dressed up today. I love looking good. And I ran into a couple boys in my ward that I may be interested in while I looked good.

The most gorgeous guy I know is moving across the country tomorrow. He seriously looks just like George Peppard. Fortunately I got that while the getting was good.

Working with people in the lower-level chemistry labs is really frustrating after working with professionals for four months. Why does NOBODY understand how safety works???
