Ideal Ward Calling?

Okay, here's another good one for me...

WARD BARBECUE SPECIALIST!

And we're not talking burgers and dogs, folks. That doesn't count as "barbecue" where I come from.

Of actual callings, the one I have had most frequently (and have loved the most) is gospel doctrine teacher. Speaking of which, I'm teaching this Sunday, and you all are invited!

Thanks, but it's my sister's first Sunday teaching. 17-year-old in a singles' ward full of professionals? It'll be great! Everyone will fall in love with her.

I think I would enjoy being something along the lines of Ward Taste Tester. Ward Activity Food Consumer. I'd love to be in charge of the leftovers (especially if I lived away from home and had to fend for myself when it came to meals).

Anything outside of ward music would be great! I'm only two callings away from having the whole set--ward chorister and choir director. I've made my rounds as Priesthood pianist, Priesthood chorister, ward pianist, ward organist, ward music chairman, and ward choir pianist. I also have done the whole stake organist thing. Based on the interview I had with the bishopric in my new ward this week, it sounds like I might still be trapped!

People, DON'T COVET. YOU WILL NEVER ESCAPE.

I stand by ward baker. That is a calling that I wouldn't mind having for several years.

Gimgimno, you already know this, but for the rest of the board board to hear as well: I love music callings. All but two of my callings have been music related (and one of those was doubled up with a music calling at the same time). I would gladly serve in music callings for years. Call me crazy, but I think it's the best place to be. Maybe I'll regret saying this later in life, but right now I stand firm in my declaration. Barring that, though, if you've got the ward baker thing down, can I at least be assistant ward baker? Please?

My least favorite calling is the indexing specialist. I had that calling for three years, in three different wards. Not that I don't love indexing, but having that as your calling is kind of lame.

My favorite calling was Friendship Counsel, I delivered nice notes every Sunday and was one of the instigators of Singing Nice Notes in my ward.

I don't think I have an ideal calling.

I was the Relief Society chorister twice, and in one ward it was absolutely awesome. In the other ward, however, it was awful. The RS presidency micromanaged everything I did. They wouldn't let me pick the songs, they wouldn't let me do music appreciation, and they would sit up there and glare at me while I led the music like they were just waiting for me to make a mistake. Incidentally, that was the ward that made me quit going to singles' wards until I moved to Halifax.

You lived in a stake with an orchestra? Wow. I've never even heard of a stake orchestra before.

But really, I stand by ward blogger. It would be GREAT.

I was once called as Ward Historian, and given basically no guidance on how to do it. So I basically became Ward Blogger. I had a blog where I documented ward activities either by compiling pictures from ward members, or by having one or two people write a couple paragraphs about the experience.

It was kind of cool.

I stand by my conviction that I have already reached the peak of ward callings. I think most imaginary callings would be lucky to even come close to the sheer awesomeness-itude.

I was Nursery Leader in my singles ward.

That's right, you heard it. While all the rest of you were in Sunday School and Priesthood/Relief Society, I was singing songs, playing games, coloring, snacking and generally hanging out gospel-style with my main man Brock; the second councilor's 2 year old.

Can callings come any better? I submit that they can not.

(Although I have to admit, my time as ward substitute was a blast as well. Sit near the door in Sunday School and see if you are going to be a participant of the day's lesson, or teaching it. Or perhaps any other class. {Teaching High Priests is like playing Pong; you throw the discussion out there and try to keep it from bouncing out of bounds, all while dodging the sleeping obstacles})

I was Nursery Leader in my singles ward.

I also was a nursery leader in my singles ward. One of our members had a 2-year-old daughter who came with him occasionally, and when she did, I did nursery! One of my other singles wards also had nursery b/c the 2nd councilor had a kid. They called eight nursery leaders. It was insane. The idea was that they would teach in pairs, and be in charge of nursery once a month each... but still. Eight people for one kid.

I was once unofficially the ward substitute one summer. Nothing official, probably because my records were lost and sent to the church office building because my ward clerk didn't request them and I didn't realize anything was wrong. But I taught Sunday School, Sunbeams, other primary classes, YW and Nursery that summer, as well as played the piano and ward chorister. I had a blast.

I would like to be the ward nutritionist. Somebody's gotta keep all you bakers in line.
Also, I would preach the doctrine of whole foods! Being on a college student's budget does not mean you have to eat junk like macaroni from a box or fast food on a regular basis.

I'd love to be the Ward Organizer. Just organize stuff. Starting with the Materials Center.

I've also had just about every music calling in the book. I've been the choir accompanist since I was 12 with the exception of my freshman year of college and bits and pieces of my mission. It does get old. Song of the righteous being a prayer notwithstanding, I've spent way too many hours bored stiff on a piano bench.
