I have a Mozy subscription, so I'm not that worried about losing data, it's just annoying to have my computer so slow and prone to overheating and potentially about to die.

I'd say you're better off shopping for a new one than trying to repair an old one, personally. Depending on what the fix is, it could cost anywhere from half as much to twice as much as a newer, more capable laptop.

Yeah, that's probably true. Money's a bit tricky right now, though, so I don't want to buy a new laptop if there's a chance this one can be fixed for less. (And in terms of speed, memory, etc., this one is more than adequate for my needs, so I don't have a particular motivation to upgrade. Aside from the whole overheating issue.)

Get a Raspberry Pi. Internet-connectable and only $35.00 and you can carry it in your pocket. TV and USB keyboard sold separately :)

So, if and when my laptop dies, is it worth it to subscribe to Apple's cloud service? Or will I be able to set up my iTunes podcasts and music again just from my backup files?
