Are the board board moderators and admins the same people as the Board editors?

Aww, good luck. It takes a bit of getting used to, but now they're my favorite kind of needles. (I also recommend working with bamboo needles, because they're a bit more "sticky" than other needles, and that way you have a smaller chance of dropping stitches or having needles fall out.)

What are you making?

No. The Board Board was created in part because the Board editors didn't want to have to moderate reader discussions on top of everything else.

Creating a message board? No, it's relatively easy. It's SUPER easy if you don't mind someone else hosting it for you. (may http://theboardmb.informe.com RIP)

:-) I meant moderating reader discussions and edit the Board.

But yes Gio, I did think it would be a lot of work to but together a message board, so thanks :-)

Actually at this point the bb and the Board are rather removed from each other. Several of us - including some who are very active here - don't even read the Board any more. We're our own little community.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

I don't know how long you've been lurking, squirrel, but we've had some conversations on here that would sooooo not fly on the actual Board -- much less censorship and self-censorship goin' on around here.

Yes, bamboo needles! Although at this point I have restarted about 80 times because I can't figure out how to start correctly. On Saturday a girl I know is going to try and help me. :D I'm making (hopefully, eventually) this dinosaur for my cousin who loves dinosaurs (she is almost 23, but who doesn't love adorable plushies?). After that I'm making myself some mittens. So, I have faith that someday dpns will not be horrible.

Hey Katya:

I'm trying to add some books to my google books account (which is not what I hoped for, but I'm using it anyway). The only way I see to add them is by ISBN, but I've got some old copies of books that don't have ISBN numbers written in or on them. Do they still have numbers? And if so, where can I find them?

If an ISBN number wasn't assigned when the book was first published, it doesn't have one (with very rare and debatable exceptions). This applies, by default, to any book published before the SBN/ISBN system was adopted in the 1960s/1970s and to many books published since then, for various reasons. If multiple editions of a book exist, it's possible that another edition of the book has an ISBN, but then it depends on if you think that's close enough to your book for your purposes. (I don't know enough about Google Books to know if that matters.) E.g., the first edition of Pride and Prejudice didn't have an ISBN, but the current Penguin Classics edition certainly does.

After browsing the Google Books website, it looks like if you do a search for a book in Google Books, you can add it to your library from the search results (with or without an ISBN). And if you go to the Advanced Search page in Google Books, you can search by title, author, year and publisher. Those four together are generally considered specific enough to be equivalent to an ISBN in terms of narrowing down a specific edition. (And you might not even need the publisher to get good results.)

I hope that helps!

Aww, that is an adorable dinosaur. And yes, joining your first row with dpns can be very tricky because of dropped stitches and millions of needles and twisted stitches. Sometimes I still have to start my dpn projects a couple of times, and I've made a million baby bootees (and a few hats) on dpns. However, it gets a lot easier after the first couple of rows because everything starts to smooth out and make more sense like a knitting project on straights or circs. Good luck!

It does help! Thanks!

I'm getting a smartphone (finally!) and one of the things I'm most excited about is having an easy to update list of all my books when I go to thrift stores. Because all the cheapest books are there, but I can never quite remember WHICH Wodehouse books I have, and which of the Narnia books I'm missing, etc, and I keep accidentally buying duplicates.

Excellent! May your thrift store book shopping be fruitful but not duplicative. :)

Yes- I've noticed. I'm not used to it, and I don't think I ever will be. It's just not how I express myself. You could say that my every-day life is Board-style censored. But I really enjoy the conversations that happen here, and the BB isn't inappropriate, so I like it here :D

Actually, I've never lurked. I tried once to figure out how the BB worked before I decided to join, and I was completely lost. I finally decided to register and figure it out. So i'm here, and that's my story.

My name is squirrel, and I'm a Mormon.

Guys!!!! I feel like an Official Board Reader !!!! (Even though I read the board every day, this seems different.)
I reached the maximum number of questions! I had no idea that you couldn't have any more than five unanswered questions at a time. I feel like I've made a huge step in life, like I have somehow reached a higher plane in the geometricness of my existence. I fell like there is no returning to how it used to be. Who wants to buy me a donut to celebrate? I like maple bars, and anything with sprinkles, OOH! Old fashioned, and ....yum...... just no filled donuts.

But no one's been asking.
bobtheenchantedone wrote:There was a time when Writers got titled fairly consistently, but that was like 3+ years ago. (Holy crap I've been an admin that long????) Aside from that titles are only given out when we feel like it and weren't always a good thing (by which I mean that some of them were more for teasing purposes).

If I feel like it I may do some titling in the next couple of days. Just for fun.
So... what's the verdict? :)
