thanks! Monetization-wise blogging has yet to pay off, but sometimes I look back on my posts and feel good about myself.

I'm moving from New Heritage to Traditional Heritage for my job this summer (an apartment all to myself!). Originally, the girls in my new room were going to leave yesterday, but then decided to not move until tonight. I don't have time to move my stuff tomorrow, so I spent a few hours today moving it into the basement storage area of the apartment...and then I get to move it back upstairs into my room...

In other news, my brother just joined rugby and had his first big game today. Pretty awesome.

Upper or lower Heritage? I'm partial to upper as that's where I lived (also, as I unfortunately learned through experience, less likely to flood). What are you doing that requires you to move? Are you working as an RA or Conference Assistant?

Lower Heritage--I'm working as a Conference Assistant.

I couldn't remember where I packed my ethernet cable, so I'm hanging out in my old building...where there's wireless

I have way too much stuff and I have to reduce everything into one 50 lb or lighter suitcase and a carry-on. This is going to be an adventure.

I don't know why I want to keep you all updated on the drama (okay not really drama) with my brother, but I'll say that I sent him back about three sentences and he replied with many paragraphs of why I should care more. He uses a lot of ellipses. I think he just likes to debate with people and that is how he feels "close" to them, but I don't like to debate with people. :( Oh well. Complicated (awkward) relationships are complicated (and awkward).

I don't mind the updates! I think it's really nice to have a place where we can whine about people in our lives without feeling passive-aggressive.

In high school a friend and I had a lot of e-mail debate back-and-forth, and I think it did make us closer friends. Is there anything you respect his opinion about that you're also interested in? Maybe there's no helping the situation, but we're here for you :-).

Yay, thanks for the validation. :) I feel like I can debate with someone I am already close to and (sadly) my brother and I are not very close. The only person I like debating with is Mr. Mico, and even then it's usually not a debate. I do actually respect his opinion on religion so maybe I'll suggest it sometime after all my end-of-semester stuff is done.

Hey everyone, could you please vote for my company? It only takes a minute or two and you don't even have to sign up or anything. (You do have to be logged into Facebook.) http://bit.ly/ZXNH4C

For me, debating means being respectful of the emotions of others, and there are very few people I can debate productively with, because otherwise I get upset and it turns into an argument. (Also, why is he insisting that you have to bend to accommodate his way of becoming closer? Why can't he do something that makes you feel closer?)

When I think of debate, it reminds me amusingly of my senior year in high school during which I happened to have enrolled in the section of English that had an emphasis in rhetoric. Some of the class members were big into it and did NFL (national forensic league). I was not one of them. The speed-talking tactic of throwing out a hundred contentions in under two minutes (or whatever it was) always seemed to me like the spaghetti approach of trying to get people onto your side: whatever I said that sticks with you; I don't care which one of my points works with you, as long as one does.

Yes, I think that is why it is hard for me to debate with most people, too. He is insisting because that is how he is. :D He insists everyone do things his way. He is very stubborn and this has led to problems in many of his relationships, personal and business. On the flipside, I'm somewhat of a pushover in many ways so I'd rather just make him happy.

Digit! I was totally in NFL in high school and did cross-x which is the speed-talking type of debate. It was really interesting to say the least. I like the phrase "spaghetti approach." I was always under the impression that the lay judges (people from the community) did not appreciate our fast-talking yet for some reason we kept doing it.

Wyoming and Utah's debate programs are very much this way. Bugs the **** out of me.

I did debate in high school (Lincoln-Douglas style), and while I enjoyed it a bit, to really get into it required more time and energy than I had. (That, and all the decent competitors were about 2.5-3 hours away...)

A skill I pride myself on is knowing when I'm actually going to throw up and when I just feel nauseous. Years of long car trips began my training, but I got really good at it during "Chemo Summer". I'll be an awesome pregnant lady. (Is that too much of a non sequitur?)

What one forgets, though, is the idle wishing that one could just vomit in order to stop feeling the nausea. I hate the idle wishing part.

Edit: Much better.

Just checked out a bunch (12) linguistics books, and had to resist checking out more than I could carry...
