Chemo Summer ... best band name, or best band name of all time?C is for wrote:A skill I pride myself on is knowing when I'm actually going to throw up and when I just feel nauseous. Years of long car trips began my training, but I got really good at it during "Chemo Summer". I'll be an awesome pregnant lady. (Is that too much of a non sequitur?)
What one forgets, though, is the idle wishing that one could just vomit in order to stop feeling the nausea. I hate the idle wishing part.
Edit: Much better.

"Um..." by Michael Erard
"The Cambridge Handbook of Sociolinguistics"
"Sociolinguistic Perspectives"
"Language, Culture, and Society" - Salzmann
"Language, Self, and Society" - Burke and Porter
"Language, Society, and Identity" - Edwards
"Applied Sociolinguistics" - Trudgill
"Language, Culture, and Identity' - Riley
"Words for Country" - Bonyhady
"Language and Religion" - Downes
"Eavesdropping" - Locke (I love the irony of his last name)
"Naming and Addressing" - Adler
I find it amusing how many similar titles there are...

I'm going to make a Linguistics Book Title Generator. There would also be interesting generators for other disciplines. (X: Field without Field being a classic.)Tally M. wrote:"Um..." by Michael Erard

Only two of my grades have posted! (Both good.) The deadline has passed! Anyone else?
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Same =P It's annoying.
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Hrmm, over here at UVU all my grades are back. Guess UVU just cares more about its students than other schools.

Wow. Tonight's been a slow night for the Board. No new posts since this afternoon. My Acute Board Addiction Syndrome is having a tough time dealing with this.

For anyone who wants to rent an apartment, it's probably best not to send really aggressive emails to the person in charge of scheduling showings. I have small kids and all, and I'm sure not letting someone who seems a little crazy into my house. Just saying.

That is the only possible conclusion.Marduk wrote:Hrmm, over here at UVU all my grades are back. Guess UVU just cares more about its students than other schools.

Wishing I had roommates, so I could read to them from my book BECAUSE IT'S SO FASCINATING and now I'm studying up on Loglan and Lojban and I really need to marry a guy that cares at least a little bit about linguistics cause IT'S SO EXCITING.
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Remind me, have you read In the Land of Invented Languages? (Read that one too because it is great!)Tally M. wrote:Wishing I had roommates, so I could read to them from my book BECAUSE IT'S SO FASCINATING and now I'm studying up on Loglan and Lojban and I really need to marry a guy that cares at least a little bit about linguistics cause IT'S SO EXCITING.

You don't need to find and marry a guy. Just find a group of like-minded people.Tally M. wrote:Wishing I had roommates, so I could read to them from my book BECAUSE IT'S SO FASCINATING and now I'm studying up on Loglan and Lojban and I really need to marry a guy that cares at least a little bit about linguistics cause IT'S SO EXCITING.
(If any of you know of people who are fascinated by Kickstarter projects, let me know... I'm sure Marduk and Random would appreciate me having someone else to talk to about them!)
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

Sooo, some of you knit/crochet. Are any of you on ravelry? I would love to have more people I know on there to stalk.
And plus then you can see pics of my awkward socks!
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
I like reading books on my own, and I like talking about them while I'm reading them...so...I feel like whoever I marry would have to not mind that I'm totally geeking out about linguistics and would be fine with me sharing stuff with them.Portia wrote:A woman needs a man like a fish needs a linguistics textbook?bobtheenchantedone wrote:You don't need to find and marry a guy. @Portia: I noticed. My language grade hasn't shown up yet though =P
@Katya: I'll check it out when I'm done with the stack I have now

I know the feeling. I pretty often read little chunks of my books aloud to Marx regardless of what they're about.Tally M. wrote:Wishing I had roommates, so I could read to them from my book BECAUSE IT'S SO FASCINATING and now I'm studying up on Loglan and Lojban and I really need to marry a guy that cares at least a little bit about linguistics cause IT'S SO EXCITING.
