I must confess my androcentric bias. Though a part of my brain knows differently, I keep assigning a masculine image with Mico. I did the same thing with Olympus, though at least then I had mythology to fall back on as an excuse.

Statements like this therefor consistantly throw me for a loop.

Meh, in many Romantic languages names ending in the letter o are masculine, so you've an excuse there as well.

When I first chose the name (as a sophomore in high school), I really did not think it sounded masculine or feminine, just cute. I now realize it has a masculine sound, but honestly that is okay with me, as I'm not the most feminine person anyway.

Just a note, "Mico" was originally a Latin verb, then was later reanalyzed as a name. This form is also the first person singular and means "I shine" (approximately), so... it has always been ambiguous that way.

Anyway, thanks C for quoting me! :D I'm honored!

You could feminize the word by changing the "o" to "a," giving "Mica." Unfortunately, in Italian, "mica" is an adverb meaning "not, not at all, not in the least."

"Microbo" is not much better, meaning "microbe." And then there is "microfono" meaning "microphone."

Mico could be feminized, but it was "Mico" on the "List of Latin Names" and "Mico" I shall remain. :) Interesting about the Italian though. I knew an American guy in my Chinese classes who called himself "Wu Ming," or "Nameless."

Nerdgirl, you just have a way of finding the great people in the world who go by Mico.
