If you're filing as a single person and live in Utah, I figure the cutoff where you should start itemizing is about $38,000, if you pay tithing based on gross income and not net income. State income tax is 5%, and tithing is 10%, so you're deducting 15% of your income. At $38,000, 15% equals to the standard deduction of $5,700. Above that, you should save money by itemizing.

Nope. My sister isn't married, but she itemized this year due to (a) buying a house (b) buying a new car (c) paying interest on her student loans (d) probably also tithing.

So. Do not despair. Just be willing to buy a whole bunch of big ticket items. :D

On an unrelated note, why do you think so many BYU students have turned to idol worship?

Nanti-SARRMM has been posting on Facebook for weeks about sacrificing goats to Jimmer.

Mormons are wierd in general, Utah Mormons even moreso, and BYU is a special culling of those wierd groups, selected for wierdness.

That's my favorite, too. :)

Or, looking at it from another perspective, the BYU student body is very homogeneous, so trends are going to spread pretty quickly within the group.

Somehow, my mom managed to not hear of Jimmer until today, when I mentioned that thread to her.

In other other news, I've been reading up on the small house movement, and I think it's fascinating. Most of the houses are less than 300 sq feet, but the biggest ones have 3 bedrooms and 800 sq feet. I've lived in small apartments without feeling too crowded...I wonder if I could live in one of those.

I couldn't do it. I'm all about simplicity, but I also like to spread out when working on a project, I like to host social gatherings, I like to have room for Dragon Baby to run. I'm doing fine in my two-bedroom condo right now, but I'm also feeling the crunch of space. I'm pretty sure that once we outgrow this place children-wise, I will be more than ready to move on to something bigger.

On the other hand, with that small of a house, I could get my large yard and garden space, even on a smaller plot!

Okay, if you don't have tickets to Divine Comedy this weekend, find a way to get some. I just got back from the tech show and most of what I saw was AWESOME!

Way to be, Bob. How long does it take you to make each one?

125 of them will take me about five minutes each, or a little bit more if I can't convince someone to cut thread for me. The other 50 will take longer, somewhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Or probably they'll start out taking about an hour and I'll gradually get better and faster. I have two to three weeks to finish the order, so I have time.
