Random Maids a'Milking!
Re: Random Maids a'Milking!
Thanks, 42!
Indefininite Integral, how did your day go? I guess depending on your time zone it's probably not over yet, but I hope it's going well.

Emiliana: Today was pretty good. It was a half day with students going around to different workshops, so I just had to herd approx. 40 kids from location to location. Tomorrow is when the real fun starts, and considering they just solidified which rooms I'm teaching in today (I float, aka don't have my own classroom) things should be...interesting.

I received a forwarded e-mail that was actually amusing.

This quick reply at the bottom here is ruining me. It seems like every response in which I use HTML code, I use it improperly, and must therefore go back and edit it.

I have a house full of unopened boxes (wedding presents + moving = organization disaster), but I'm still more inclined to sit on my love sack and type things on here.
Re: Random Maids a'Milking!
I approve of your decision, thebigcheese.

I'm very glad that I, rather than the dogs or the two-year-olds, was the one who discovered the dead mouse in the schoolyard today. Hooray for NOT transmitting nasty tropical diseases!

Cookies. I like them.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

We got Mockingjay from the library today*. I peeked at the last page and I know who Katniss ends up with. Now I'm vaguely interested in reading it just to see how it is she ends up with that person instead of the other choice.
Oh, but reading the first paragraph of the blurb is just painful.

I just finished reading my fifth book in two days. Mockingjay is still on the list, though.

Ooo, thanks for reminding me! One of my sisters pre-ordered Mockingjay for me for my birthday, so that should be coming in the mail soon.
Somehow I ended up owning all three of those books in hardback, which is quite a rarity for me.

Random is waiting for that book, but I have yet to read any of them.

What?!?!?! You are hereby commanded to go and get the nearest copy of "The Hunger Games" and read it immediately! Before school starts!bobtheenchantedone wrote:Random is waiting for that book, but I have yet to read any of them.

I haven't read them either. So there.
My mom did give me the Dragon Tattoo book to read last week though, so I think that's next on the list.

Re: Random Maids a'Milking!
School doesn't start for me until January. So there.
Not to mention I'd be something like 47th in line for it at the library. And I have a $33 fine.

Yeah, I haven't read The Hunger Games either, but everyone I talk to insists that it's absolutely necessary for me to read those books...as though my very salvation depended on it.
(Side note: In the past, I've noticed that people tend to say that about suspenseful, trendy books like Twilight. Their obsessions often become so over-the-top that it actually turns me off from reading the book. To this day, I've still never read any of the Twilight or Harry Potter series. And I don't want to.)

Re: Random Maids a'Milking!
Hunger Games was good, but I haven't read the second one yet. It was recommended to me by a good friend before everyone else had read it, so I read it. Granted I didn't read it until two weeks ago and am 80 in line for the next book, but I did enjoy it. It was somewhat predictable, but I enjoy books that explore collapsed societies.
Re: Random Maids a'Milking!
I don't get this. Why should someone else's reaction be allowed to interfere with your relationship with a book? I mean, if the book genuinely doesn't have any appeal for you, I guess don't read it. But if you're not reading it purely because other people have gone a bit crazy over it... I don't get it. At worst, you read a mediocre book that's been over-hyped. At best, you find a wonderful story that you can enjoy. I've read hundreds of mediocre books, so that doesn't seem so bad. Really, where is the downside?thebigcheese wrote:Their obsessions often become so over-the-top that it actually turns me off from reading the book. My sister says...
"Since they think reading the book because other people like it is letting other people control them, they don't read it because other people like it. Thereby, letting other people control them."

That sounds vaguely like part of my reasoning for keeping my hair it's natural color. A young gentleman was adamant that I not dye my hair, so I almost did just to prove that I wasn't basing my decision on him. In the end though I know that I'm not going to like my hair if I dye it, so I don't.
