I don't know, but I hope so. It might even be worth driving home for... it's not every day that one's home turns 100.

It won't pass unnoticed. In fact, the celebration will be spread out over the next year and will include a lot of events, and a huge effort to raise money for education and "outreach" (whatever that means).

I encourage you to take a moment to learn about Arizona history, enjoy our beautiful parks, and explore the vast beauty of our rural and Native American communities.
Also, I bet New Mexico is gearing up as well, since I believe they joined up the same year as Arizona. The next statehood centennial won't hit until Alaska or Hawaii's. So... sometime in the late 50s?

I've always felt that a greeting card should function as the decorative vehicle on which a personal, hand-written sentiment is exchanged. I'm surprised when I'm given a card that is only signed, leaving Hallmark or whatever to write the feelings for you. How do other people do it?

By the way, I'm not referring to a specific Valentine's experience - just cards in general.

Speaking of mailing people things... I just bought a bunch of awesome postcards and a bunch of stamps for them. And now I'm scared to send them to people because I can't think of personalized things to write on them that I'm okay with anyone being able to read.

*Sigh*

I send out more blank cards than I do preprinted carts (although not many of either, to tell the truth).

I think all of my childhood cards were blank+signature, but now that I'm getting older, I feel more obliged to write something personal.

I… don't really send cards. Except thank you cards. Which are blank inside, so I write a message telling the person why I'm thanking them.

Which is funny because my first real job was working for American Greetings. But then again, as a 16-year old, paying $3-6 for a card seemed ridiculously expensive for paper. So I never developed the desire to buy them. And even though I have money to do it now, my 16-year old perspective stays with me. So I typically make a card instead if I need one.

They both joined in 1959. My mom is the only one of her siblings born when the country had 50 states.

I bet it would have been really interesting to live through the process of adding a state to the union. Maybe I'll ask my parents about that sometime...

Random fact: although my parents were both alive in 1959, neither were in this country.

Alaska is older, so they--alright, I'm just going to say it--we will be celebrating our centennial first.

Did I know you were from Alaska? Have we had the argument yet about which is the easternmost U.S. state?

I've neglected to mention my home state on this forum (I finally decided that I've given too many hints to not just come out and say it--a stalker would have figured it out by now). So, I don't believe we've had the argument. I like to say it's the easternmost state--that way we can be most north, west, and east all at the same time. And if you cut us in half, each half could still eat Texas for breakfast. Mwahahaha.
