I too have started blogging again! It has my real first name attached, so you're welcome, stalkers.
I aim for it to be positive, literary, personal, and consistent. I want it to be the type of blog that I wouldn't be embarrassed for a family member to read, so if you're on the more conservative side, shouldn't be a problem.
Points if you can name the source of the title without Googling! (The URL should be obvious if you read post #1!)

Today's faux pas: shouting "Concorde" in a crowded hallway rather than her actual name.

Marduk wrote:If you scored well, I'd totally take it. I also took it recently. It was about $180 and they will send it to up to five schools for free. (That doesn't seem expensive to me, considering applying to a school costs $50-80. And I'm sure most other schools require it.)
They've whittled it down to four schools, now. Decisions, decisions.
Your test fee entitles you to request that scores be sent to up to four graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors.

the latest household debate: whether or not kitchen solids you put down the drain eventually get composted. Turns out it depending on how your local waste/sewage treatment plant works. In Provo it is made into fertilizer! Still researching Spanish Fork.

My least-favorite season is over and my favorite one has officially begun! I did go back to San Francisco, perform at the Sandy Amphitheater (wow), and see The Head and the Heart, so it wasn't all a loss. ^_^ My autumnal plans are to see all the symphonies, go to Colorado, eat all the pastries, step up my work game by half again as much, and ride my bike up to a waterfall here in Sandy, at least. Probably more bike rides as well. I've also taken up some recreational baking. {shock} The peach cobbler was legit.
Also can I say that good roommates are underrated? Let's hear it for the neat, tidy, quiet, polite, responsible ladies out there, woo!

Yesterday I thought I was going to be in big trouble from my witchy assistant principal, but then it turned out that I wasn't. Hooray!
Then today I thought my dog had eaten a Cadbury egg, but actually he'd just gotten it off the table and hidden it in the couch cushions (because that's a totally normal dog thing to do?).
Apparently I've wasted a lot of energy in the last 24 hours worrying about things that didn't really happen.

I just unfollowed a bunch of people on Facebook that I don't interact with regularly and hid more news sites and I find my slimmer FB feed freeing.

So, I don't know if this is due to a transition to Common Core, Utah's public schools being a joke, or both, but none of my tutees have textbooks. ?!?! How about before we try to get an iPad into every child's wee fingers, we invest in basic algebra and biology texts. It's unreasonable to expect anyone to learn through a scattershot amalgam of worksheets and Google. I was sitting there with my cell phone, looking up "protostomes" on Wikipedia, feeling like this couldn't be real.
Definitely time to go to the public library and check out texts and look for practice problems. It's difficult to feel that whatever aid I provide is a mere Band-Aid. I care less about what these teens know (the quadratic formula - doesn't everyone learn the song, though?), and more that they learn good study skills and how to find information, which I hope will benefit them in college and beyond ... Although when the mothers are the ones taking notes and scrounging up assignments and getting paper, I do wonder ...

My sister was having homework trouble today. I showed her that literally every answer could be found by typing the key words into Google and skimming the first thing that came up. Not sure if that was a good learning skill or a bad learning skill. (In fairness, once she finished, we got to watch Captain America 2).

The Board Writer part of me is thrilled. The tutor part of me is horrified. There needs to be a German word for this.

Honestly, she doesn't really need to know about traditional Mexican celebrations in San Antonio. She'll live without it.

ugh, there's a guy who keeps posting about his car cleaning "business" on the community facebook page I admin... should I make a rule about how many times you can post about personal business stuff? It's getting kind of annoying.
