Yeah. Our neighbor is actually taking it better than we are. (She's pretty pragmatic.)

A combination of my friend mentioning this board to me last week and a whole bunch of free time to use up combined and I came over to check it out for the first time in a long time.

Hello! I'm so glad to see so many of my favorite people still in one place!

so, I was frying tortillas and the recipe said the pan should be hotter than 400 degrees. So I used our food thermometer and it just wasn't getting hot enough! I burned some of the seasoning off our cast iron pan! And then I found out our food thermometer can't measure that high. :-(

Hotter than 400 degrees? What are you frying them in? I'm not aware of an oil that has a smoke point over 400 degrees.

okay, so I wasn't actually frying them. No oil at all. Just the oil from seasoning the pan a while back.

Is that called pan frying?

No, pan frying is cooking in small amounts of oil, also called sauteing.

The term usually used for cooking on a metal surface without oil (or other liquid) is usually "grill."

So I took your advice and started reading Wodehouse. With Waugh, Wharton, and (usually) Winspear, he was among good company in the Ws. And now I recommend The Code of the Woosters to everyone and anyone. Many a guffaw, chortle, and hyperventilating gasp has been observed on various buses, park benches, and otherwise-quiet-bookstores while I was reading anything by this man.

Uffish knows her stuff. Search the archives for her book recommendations, people.

Oh hooray! It always makes me so happy when someone else finds him and likes him too. Wodehouse is a master.

I'm not sure what else I recommended at the time, though. I hope it matches up as well.

Okay, I GRILLED them. Maybe I can complain without being grilled sometime too.

While searching the archives for something, I noticed there is a subject tag for "Long Distance Relationships with Missionaries." :D It's great it has it's own tag.

Guys! Guys! I'm getting sprinklers and grass today! So far there has only been one hiccup. They cut my internet cable, so I've been without internet all morning. But I have my iPhone, so I didn't feel too cut off from the world. But I think they've buried my sprinklers and are now putting on top soil!

(This is for all of you who don't follow me on Facebook and haven't been inundated with my excited posts all day.)

It can't be too popular. A google image search for utah or mormon claw return nothing useful.

so, the website specializes is less-used slang, and I'm pretty sure it's an older hairstyle. Still: http://ohmychubbiness.blogspot.com/2011 ... wards.html

It's interesting to thing about the compounding effect of random circumstances. This morning I happened to use a McDonald's coupon for a free drink at a McDonald's I never stopped at before, this was one of a countless number of other factors that caused me to be at a certain place and time about 5 minutes later such that a bird flew down onto the road and didn't get out of the way in time. Of course some other car might have been in that place at that time, but if I hadn't had that coupon, that bird wouldn't have been run over by me. Maybe because I happened to get that coupon a few days ago in the mail, some hatchlings will die. Maybe if some churl hadn't (or had) scratched himself 2.20898482 × 10^10 seconds ago as of the typing of this (about 700 years), I wouldn't exist as I do.
