I'm listening to a Frank Sinatra song -- "I Get a Kick Out of You" -- and there are very obvious cocaine references. Who says music now is dirtier than it used to be? :P

I DO. THE WORLD IS CLEARLY GOING DOWNHILL. BACK IN MY DAY, WE HAD TO WALK UPHILL BOTH WAYS IN THE SNOW TO BUY MUSIC WITH DRUG REFERENCES.

It wasn't even oblique: "Some, they may go for cocaine. / I'm sure that if I took even one sniff / It would bore me terrifically, too. / Yet I get a kick out of you. "

So romantic. Maybe Sinatra and Clapton were buds, what with all their drug references.

"I Get a Kick Out of You," among other songs written by Cole Porter back then, were all about highlighting the "anything goes" attitude that was prevalent in that era. Interestingly, in later versions of that song, the drug references are replaced by something else.

My friend hadn't ever seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail before, so I introduced him to it this past week. I forgot how ridiculous it was...

I'm convinced tha movie is more fun to quote than to watch. (And more fun to watch than to listen to others quote endlessly.)

I told him his life would be greatly improved by watching the movie. Improvement in life determined by the number of ThinkGeek t-shirts one is able to understand.

An astronaut in the ISS and a singer from Barenaked Ladies sing a duet! It is a sweet song, but the fact that they could do this at all is amazing in and of itself. (Eirene, I found this via the Bad Astronomy blog. :D)

Yep, the Netflix-exclusive series starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. Interesting stuff.

The ease with which people were able to use search by image technology to get the computer to do the work for them made me curious as to the details of algorithms able to compare images. No doubt Google has some non-public twists, but I'm finding out more reading this interesting paper. I can only imagine that David Lowe has received some hefty licensing compensation from Google for his SIFT patent (only since 2004, he's got a while to receive off of that one).

Ski Dubai must use an obscene amount of energy every day to maintain the temperature gradient between the inside snowy temperature and the outside desert temperature for that huge covered volume.
