I'm guessing you either had some kind of spiritual enlightenment or you were playing Guitar Hero. Maybe both at the same time. But either way, congratulations!

Actually neither one. I was mining on Mars, in fact.

It's times like this that I think of how confusing talking to someone from before the age of video games (via time travel) would be. Depending on when, they'd probably call you crazy at best and burn you at the stake at worst.

Sorry, there is no clever or humorous writing to be found in the works of Jane Austen.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes from Pride and Prejudice.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters."

"I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine."

"Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us."

"A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony, in a moment."

"Nothing is more deceitful ... than the appearance of humility. It is often only carelessness of opinion, and sometimes an indirect boast."

"The power of doing anything with quickness is always prized much by the possessor, and often without any attention to the imperfection of the performance."

"You expect me to account for opinions which you choose to call mine, but which I have never acknowledged."

"It is particularly incumbent on those who never change their opinion, to be secure of judging properly at first."

"We must not be so ready to fancy ourselves intentionally injured. We must not expect a lively young man to be always so guarded and circumspect. It is very often nothing but our own vanity that deceives us. Women fancy admiration means more than it does."

"Adieu to disappointment and spleen. What are men to rocks and mountains?"

"For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?"

"My fingers ... do not move over this instrument in the masterly manner which I see so many women's do. They have not the same force or rapidity, and do not produce the same expression. But then I have always supposed it to be my own fault- because I would not take the trouble of practising."

Remember when we were all hurting our ankles, and it was really funny?

I'm now funnier than all of you, because I just hurt my right ankle (it was my left last time).

So how was everyone's first day of school? Those people that began school today.

It was too long. I work and 6 and didn't get out of school until 6:45 pm, after which I immediately walked to FHE which didn't end until 8:30 or 9. I finally got to sleep around 10:30. But other than being exhausted out of my mind, it was good.

Really? Man, I miss out. Except my subconscious must have still been with you when I wasn't even checking the boardboard. I rolled my ankle last Saturday.

Vorpal, thanks for that list! I love that book. I think Mr. Bennett is by far funnier in the book than in any of the movies. And none of the movies even get the best part of the ending. That doesn't mean I don't love watching the A&E version, though. :D Now I wanna go read the book again.

I do really like Pride and Prejudice. I watch a fair amount of Bollywood movies. Have you ever seen the Bollywood version of Pride and Prejudice called Bride and Prejudice? There are better Bollywood movies, but this is pretty interesting. There is also a Bollywood version of Sense and Sensibility called I have found it. Come to think of it, both movies star Aishwarya Rai. Actually, strictly speaking, Bride and Prejudice is filmed in English, and is only like a real Bollywood movie. Also, I have found it was filmed in the Tamil language and is really a Tollywood movie.

Currently my wife and I are watching the 2009 BBC version of Emma. We really like it. I read the book about fifteen years ago, and my wife says I told her then that I didn't really like it. I think I would like it now. My wife prefers Emma to Pride and Prejudice, believing Emma is deeper and more realistic. So, I may be rereading Emma before I reread Pride and Prejudice.

I'm trying to read Persuasion right now. It's really good (I've read it a few times). But I'd rather watch the movie (the new one, that I haven't seen). I'd rather watch something than read lately. Sad day.

In hopefully not related news, my goal tomorrow is to search the Board for apt relationship questions, so I don't have to ask anyone advice. In the meantime, I'm just going to ignore that text. I haven't been remotely encouraging, I don't know where this comes from.

I talked to Darth Fedora for a while last night. She mentioned how she was thinking about applying to the Board. I am now publicly encouraging all of you to nag her every time you communicate with her until she asks for an app.

Dear Darth Fedora,

If you apply for the Board and do not tell me, I will be exceedingly upset and will never, ever forgive you. Ever.

If a roommate or really anyone in your apt. is attempting to instigate a romantic relationship, I'd tread lightly. That could get awkward fast.

You know how I mentioned that "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was the next book I was going to read? I finished. And I don't really recommend it. It wasn't clean (swearing, characters sleeping around very casually, lots of distrurbing rape and murder). And while the action was certainly compelling, I prefer books that make you think about something when you are done. No morals here. Just "hey, look how demented some people are."

Anyway, just thought I would toss that out.

My nine-month-old mutt is one or more of the following: a. pregnant; b. having a serious case of intestinal parasites; or c. doomed to be the ugliest, lumpiest dog ever. This has been the major topic of conversation for the ten or so adults who've been on our compound today.

I had a dog once who got some ugly lumps on her tummy. Turned out to be cancer.
