52619 - How many times have you broken up? (future question)

Post by Whistler »

Hey BYU boardies, please go to my blog and cast your "vote" for how many times you've broken up so I can have a good sample for this question. http://whistlerbyu.blogspot.com/
Note: this is for BYU students or alumni only (the question was specifically about BYU students). If you're an alumnus/a, count how many times you broke up before you graduated or got married, whichever came first.

Is this the number of times you broke up, or the number of people you broke up with? Because I broke up with my husband quite a few times when we were dating as undergrads, but it just never stuck . . .

count breaking up with the same person if you were broken up for more than... say, two weeks.

Oh, hey, I hadn't even thought of breaking up with the same person more than once. Let me go change my vote...

I feel like I should have a response for this other than laughing, but it just isn't there (o: At least it was a lot of laughing!

Could you please define "breaking up?"

If I dated a girl and decided not to date her again, is that breaking up?

What if I dated a girl exclusively more than once a week for a month or two, but there was no understanding that this was in fact an exclusive relationship, and then we went our separate ways for the summer? Is that breaking up?

What if I kept dating a girl until she turned me down for a date, saying she had to wash her hair that night (or check the expiration dates on the food in her refrigerator)?

What if everyone thought she and I were a couple, but I never thought so, and I just lost interest in her?

What if we were dating each other exclusively for a whole semester, and she went on a semester abroad because I didn't give her a ring, but I never promised to not date anyone else, and didn't ask her to promise that either?

Is a DTR discussion a prerequisite?

Eh...hypothetically speaking.

Dude, you can remember all that after all the time that you've been married?

And no, not going out again again with a girl does not count as a break up. Otherwise most of us would a large number of breakups.

There is a reason they call memorization "learning something by heart". Some memories don't fade as easily as the fourth week of American Heritage.

@ vorpal: I'd say go with the break-ups whereupon you were, as it were, broken up about. Granted, it'd mean there'd be times where you broke up with someone who didn't break up with you, but that's a fitting enough tribute to the convoluted game, I'd say.

He who knows himself has discernment.
He who overcomes others has force;
He who overcomes himself is strong. 33:1-4
