The Smiths

Oh, it was awesome to hear that there are board writers who love the Smiths as well. I've been listening to them for, seriously, 15+ years. They were old even when I started listening to them. I guess that's what happens when you are the youngest of six, you get some old music tastes.

I agree with pretty much all the posts, but I think please, please, please let me get what I want is their best.

Honorable mentions that were not mentioned:

Shakespeare's sister
Sheila take a bow
The boy with the thorn in his side
stop me if you think that you've heard this one before
Last night dreamt that somebody loved me

I guess you like the twee, cheerful melancholy tracks, huh Marduk? You'd be in Claudio's camp, then. He chewed me out for not listing This Charming Man... which I can understand, since it's a great song. Still Ill too. I could go on.

Really, it's hard to go wrong with the Smiths.

Well, I honestly like the others better. But those were already mentioned. If I were to list, say, top five, it would probably go

1. Please, Please, Please let me get what I want
2. I know it's over (this might even be number one, just depending on the day)
3. What difference does it make?
4. That Joke isn't funny anymore
5. Frankly, Mr. Shankly

A few energetic favorites of mine I neglected to mention:

The Queen is Dead - when that opening drum pulse gets started I get chills. This song is great LOUD.
A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours - another great opener.

Ok, one more. How could we have a discussion of the saddest Smiths songs without mentioning "Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me". I mean, even the title is depressing.

*Bump*

Did anyone who has never listened to the Smiths listen to any of the songs I linked to? What did you think?

I haven't. But none of you would probably share the same musical tastes that I do.

However, Coggers, just for you, I will listen to some of their music.

If you wanted to provide youtube links to some of their (Say 4, because the Chinese word for 4 is san, which reminds me of some.) more accessible songs, then I would be even more likely to listen to them.

Here's 20-ish. Listen to all of them. Start with the best guitar songs, and move from there.
