I wasn't denying that. I just really wanted to share that article, and this forum provided me the means to do it.Gimgimno wrote:Everyone usually hates on my choice. I stand by it, though.
And I'm not accusing anybody when I say this, but a lot of people that choose Ocarina of Time pick that because it was when they began playing the games. I'm not denying that it was groundbreaking, because it was, but A Link to the Past shook the industry just as much when it was released for the SNES.
Seriously, though--Link's Awakening was about as detailed and beautiful as A Link to the Past on the Game Boy, and it was released only a year after. On the GAME BOY. People need to remember what regular Game Boy games were like. The SNES and N64 had dozens of other classic titles, but what original games are there for the Game Boy that competed with Link's Awakening (meaning Tetris, Dr. Mario, etc. are disqualified)? None. The Final Fantasy Legend series wasn't terribly special, Super Mario didn't really translate to handheld systems until the GBA and DS, and if you mention Pokemon I will slit your throat and point out that Red and Blue weren't released until 3-5 years later (depending on where you're talking). Link's Awakening dominated Game Boy game sales charts; according to Wiki, it was a bestseller for over seven years, not to mention the DX rerelease.
So that's why I picked it. It wasn't better than Ocarina of Time, but I think it maximized the potential of its system more than any other Zelda game has. I might even be so bold and say that it maximized its system more than any other game has, period. Forget limiting that statement to just the Zelda franchise.
I wasn't saying that you were denying that. I was just clarifying my point in case any rabid OoT fans try to burn me at the stake. It was more of a rant than a contribution to discussion P:Giovanni Schwartz wrote:I wasn't denying that.
