It's so great to hear from the other readers of the Board! (and of course the writers too)

My name is The Happy Medium and I've been reading the Board regularly for about a year and a half now. I heard about it from a friend last March and I read through a whole year's worth of archives while on a study abroad in France last summer. I'm so excited to join the Board board community :)

Hi everyone!

I'm Squirrel. I don't remember when I started reading the Board, but I love it! (just like everyone else here.)
I've posted questions with a different 'nym every time. This is my first attempt at being consistent. I'm still trying to figure out how the Board Board works, and I'm not really sure where to start with all the topics.....

I'm from the Midwest...where it's a lot colder than Utah and has therefore skewed my perception of Cold.

I bet. I lived in Illinois for two years (having grown up in Utah) and I was utterly unprepared for the winters there.

... and I thought Utah was cold.... I'm from northern California, so I'm used to a different kind of cold- wet. I like this kind of winter because it's a dry cold, and it doesn't "stick" to your clothes. And snow is a bit of a novelty. But I don't know if I could say that i'd like the mid-west in the winter. The movies make it look mighty cold!!!

It was -15 degrees F on Monday, which translated to -36 with windchill, in my hometown. School wasn't canceled.

I really love snow and don't mind the cold. Mostly because the cold here...isn't that cold.

Right. I had to learn to pay attention to the windchill instead of the temperature in order to be properly dressed.
