New Forum?

We've had many problems with this forum, and after some discussion, C4 and I are thinking it is time to move to a new forum. How do you guys feel about it? Our main concern is that we don't want to lose all of the stuff we have on this forum.

We'd be starting a whole new forum (Sorry Gio, but we'd rather start it ourselves as you're leaving soon).

I'm fine with that, I guess - minus the fact that, as you say, we would lose all of our old conversations. Not that all of them were particularly life-altering, but still . . .

I haven't noticed that many problems though. I guess you guys see a lot on the admin end?

I haven't really had any issues either. Up to you guys. If you guys go, I'll follow.

I'll say that this forum has been extremely annoying at times, but it is free and I guess you get what you pay for...

However, I don't know that we'd have to lose everything from here. The easiest option would be to just dump the contents of this forum. Admins, do they let you do that?

If not, we can also scrape, which would be imperfect but would mostly work.

Keep in mind, too, that we'd probably lose some people if we did move. (Though we could put up a message or something pointing to the new place.)

I'm looking into somehow bringing our conversations into the new forum. Also, if we do change, there'll be messages about it here, and C4 or I can send a message to the email address of all the users. I was also planning to keep an eye on this forum for a while.

The main problem with the forum as it stands now, is that we admins actually have very few powers. There's really not much we can do. We (well, I at least) would prefer to have a bit more power to be able to fix/modify what we need to. So ... yeah. It's kind of an admin thing, but we hope the experience would be better for all of you as well.

But if you guys are totally against a move (we could probably even figure out a redirect?) we can just ... make do?

...the one I set up works. And has many powers-y stuff. And you girls could still be admins. And it's already set up.

/pouts.

But if you don't like it, just google "Free forum hosting" and you should find a bunch of options. That's how I found mine.

But you're leaving. The forum creator has all the cool admin powers that we don't. So if we create one, then we have control of those special powers.

At least, we assume that's why we can't do anything here.

I'm against it!

If you move, I won't be able to randomly show up and randomly tweak things just for the sake of confusing the other admins!

I will lose all of my super secret powers!!

...

Maybe we'll make you an admin there. Just so you can come mess things up. Since that seems so important to you.

; )

Holy cats, how many admins are there? They just seem to come out of the woodwork.

.... Also, are we in some sort of gynecocracy? Seems like all the admins are female....

Well, when I stopped being an active member of this forum a few years ago, fred and I asked bob if she wanted to take over for me. So she became an admin, but my account still retained privileges as well. This is probably true for a bunch of other people who have held the position over the years. If it bugs you, you can downgrade me to a regular user.

Also, there is an option in the Administration Panel to send a mass email to all your users. If you do decide to move to a new place, you could notify people that way to let them know about the move even if they don't check in here all the often.

I support a move. this forum is buggy as hell and half the time it won't even let me log in. and I know I'm not the only one.

After discussing my position with the admins, what I meant to say was...

Welcome female overlords! Continue to improve our lives.

Well.. the forum host people that I have been checking out apparently used to do free imports, but now it costs $45. I might love the forum that much, but I simply don't have money.

So we're looking at a: keep the buggy forum or b: move forums and start over. Of course this forum will still exist if anyone wants to check it.

I still don't like loosing things, but I also am starting to hate this forum and its problems. (I'm talking internet problems, not people problems.)

Go to that link and try everything there. We may be able to work together to get everything in line.
